Simulation games have always been a rather popular genre that saw an immense boom in popularity in recent years. Enabling players to live out their dreams, some players even find such games therapeutic. Titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons saw unprecedented popularity, not just with longtime fans of the franchise, but even those who typically didn’t play video games.
It’s no wonder, then, that Disney would be creating their own simulation game. Titled Disney Dreamlight Valley, it’s described as a “life-simulation adventure game” by its Steam store page description. It’s marked with an Early Access release date of Summer 2022. While much of the game’s content overall is unknown, there’s still enough to report on to hopefully raise some hype before it launches later this summer.
7 The Game’s Early Access Launch Is Not The Full Release Date
Disney Dreamlight Valley is set to head into Early Access sometime in Summer 2022, but this doesn’t mean everyone will be granted access. In fact, despite the fact the game will be free-to-play once it officially launches, players who want to experience the magic this year will have to shell out some cash.
In order to participate in the Summer 2022 Early Access version of the game, players will either have to purchase a Founder’s Pack or have an Xbox Games Pass Membership. It hasn’t been revealed how much the Founder’s Pack will cost, or if there are various tiers of differing prices. It also says that Founder’s Pack purchasers will receive exclusive rewards, but those have yet to be detailed.
6 The Plot Revolves Around Undoing The Darkness And Corruption That’s Taken Over
In Disney Dreamlight Valley, everything was once a picture-perfect utopia with bright, sunny days, sprawling open fields, and a community of smiling faces. However, a mysterious event known as The Forgetting sweeps the land. Not only have all the residents lost many of their memories, but the entire village is covered in dark, sprawling thorns.
“That is, until you arrive!” the trailer states with enthusiasm, showing the player transforming the shadowy landscape into the beautiful utopia it once was. As they do, they’ll get to form relationships with tons of beloved heroes and villains alike.
5 The Player’s Journey Begins With A Quest From Merlin
Although Dreamlight Valley is made up of a ton of various Disney-and-Pixar-inspired worlds the player visits throughout their journey, every great adventure has to start somewhere. The first quest all players will pick up comes from Merlin, and will teach them the basics of the game.
While the store description isn’t overly telling as to what this entails, it does say that the Valley is full of materials players can collect and sell. Once players gain their footing and understand the basics of the game’s systems, there’s an entire world for them to uncover.
4 Activities Like Fishing, Gardening, And Cooking Can Be Done With Fan-Favorite Characters
In Dreamlight Valley players get to travel to different worlds and meet a ton of recognizable characters from their favorite franchises. They’ll also be able to take said characters along with them throughout their journey. Some characters will even have unique story arcs that the player gets to go through.
Not only that, but players will be able to do their everyday tasks such as fishing, gardening, and cooking with some of their fan-favorite characters. For those who have ever wondered what making a delectable dish with Remy from Ratatouille would be like, it won’t be long before they’ll be able to.
3 The Methods To Acquire Clothing And Furniture Feel Similar To Animal Crossing
Fans of the Animal Crossing series will likely find that the systems for acquiring new clothes and furniture feel familiar, and that’s not a bad thing. There’s in-game, pre-made clothing options that can be bought, but players will also have the option to create their own custom designs, as well.
When it comes to acquiring furniture, the store page states that both new items and buildings will be given to the player by their villagers. It’s unknown if there will be any sort of store resembling Nook’s Cranny where players could buy furniture.
2 There’s Already A Decent Amount Of Characters Confirmed To Be In The Game
There are already quite a few characters confirmed to be coming to Disney Dreamlight Valley from a variety of different series. Of course, it wouldn’t be any fun if they gave away all the characters making an appearance, but providing players with a small roster lets them build hype. For the confirmed Pixar characters, there’s Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Toy Story, Wall-E from his titular movie, Remy from Ratatouille and Sulley from Monsters, Inc.
As for Disney characters, Ursula, Eric and Ariel from The Little Mermaid are confirmed, as is Scrooge McDuck from Ducktales. Moana and Cinderella from their titular movies appear as well — alongside Minnie, Mickey, and Goofy. Belle and Beast from Beauty and the Beast are also confirmed, as are Scar, Timon, Pumbaa, Simba, and Nala from The Lion King. Stitch from Lilo And Stich will also appear, with Kristoff, Anna, Elsa, and Olaf from Frozen making the list as well. Finally, Ralph and Vanelope from Wreck-It Ralph are confirmed.
1 Players Can Move Their House — And Villager’s Houses — To Different Biomes
In a more recent update post, the beginnings of biomes for Dreamlight Village were revealed. Biomes are various areas that both players and villagers can live in, and they’re each meant to represent a different, unique environment that befits the colorful cast who call each one home.
In total, four different biomes have been revealed so far. The Plaza, featured above, is the first biome all players will start out at, making it basic-yet-cozy. There’s also the Glade of Trust, Dazzle Beach, and the Peaceful Meadow. Not only will players be able to move both their house and their villagers’ houses into different areas of each biome, but into entirely different biomes, as well.
