Disney Introduces Gay Spider-Man – RedState

Has Spider-Man been entangled by a web in the closet? If so, the superhero is about to break free.

As put by Screen Rant, “Comic publishers like Marvel have been stepping up their game for Pride Month more and more as the years go by, and (now)…Marvel has announced its first gay Spider-Man: Web-Weaver!”

The inclusive arachnid will swing into action in September, by way of Edge of Spider-Verse #5.

Pink News heralded that the new titan in tights will have a “fearlessly femme identity;” and if the costume renderings are on point, surely many would agree with the assessment:

Here’s a bit of the alternative-to-Peter-Parker’s profile:

Web-Weaver is described as a “not-so-mild mannered fashion designer at Van Dyne [industries],” the company owned by Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp.

After he gets his spider powers, he “shows us a different kind of Spider-Slayer,” according to a description of the comic posted to Twitter.

If you can’t tell from the drawings, “Web-Weaver’s costume features flared sleeves, a ruff, yellow detailing and lashes on the spider lenses.”

On social media, Gay Spidey co-creator Steve Fox reportedly raved about the non-heteronormative opportunity:

“Surprise: I had the huge gay honor of helping to co-create Web-Weaver, who’ll make his debut in Edge of the Spider-verse this September!”

Our idea of American heroes has certainly evolved.

Once, above all, it was this:

And in the comics world, sexuality was as far away as the East from the West.

But over the past few years, in addition to becoming gayer, the arena has managed an overall woke revolution.

In 2020, I covered a few of Disney-owned Marvel’s modern marvels, known as the New Warriors.

With assistance from Marvel.com, meet the Psychic Twins — Snowflake and Safespace:

Snowflake is non-binary and goes by they/them, and has the power to generate individual crystalized snowflake-shaped shurikens.

Safespace can create pink forcefields, but he can’t enter them himself — they only work at protecting others. … Safespace is a big, burly, sort of stereotypical jock.

I introduced a few other newbies as well:

Also among the group is Trailblazer, who’s “a regular kid scooped up into the world of teenage Super Heroing. Her ‘magic backpack’ is actually a pocket dimension with seemingly infinite space, from which she can pull out useful or random objects—it’s not always under her control.”

And where’d her power come from?

She claims to get her power from god, but “not the god you’re thinking of.”

Also in the New Warriors: vampire B-Negative.

Rounding out the bunch: Screentime, “a meme-obsessed super teen whose brain became connected to the internet,” who “can instantly Google any fact.”

“Does this make him effectively a genius?” the New Warriors official introduction page asks. “He sure acts like it does.”

Back to brand-spanking Web-Weaver, not everyone online is ready to read. One self-professed “predominantly gay” tweeter remarked, “[N]ot all of us are FEM queens. (It) feels like it’s feeding the stereotypes.”

Another critic posed the following:

Eight percent of the U.S. (is) LGTBQAI+. What’s the point of making Spider-Man gay? He’s never been gay. Makes zero sense other than to push the Agenda…

Ready or not, gay Spider-Man will soon be crawling at a comics store near you.

Perhaps Web-Weaver will spin something more golden than the New Warriors’ derailed on-air debut:
