Social Media Erupts As Donald Trump Mistakenly Gets Civil War End Date Wrong (VIDEO)

Donald Trump had a moment that left social media side-eyeing his knowledge of U.S. history. While discussing a major Supreme Court win regarding birthright citizenship this week, the President fumbled his words, saying the Civil War ended in “1869 or whatever.” The comment came at the same briefing where he casually dropped that he’d “absolutely” consider bombing Iran again.

Trump Gets The Civil War End Date Wrong

While laying out his executive order on birthright citizenship, he threw some major shade. He said “some of the worst people, some of the cartels” were using the legal right to sneak people into the country.

If implemented, Trump’s executive order regarding birthright citizenship would deny citizenship to babies born in the United States. This means that, moving forward, to obtain citizenship by birth, at least one parent must be a citizen or a lawful permanent resident.

He then proceeded to school reporters with a history lesson, wrongly claiming that at “the end of the Civil War, the 1800s,” it was a turbulent time before guessing the war ending in “1869 or whatever.” The Civil War ended in 1865. Seemingly seeing the fumble as no biggie, Trump kept it pushing, saying:

“But you take that exact day, that’s when the case was filed, and the case ended shortly thereafter. This had to do with the babies of slaves. Very, very obviously, and I think we’re going to win.”

Social Media Reacts To Trump’s Flub

People on social media had A LOT to say. Some argued that the President of the United States should be familiar with the country’s history. Others gave him the benefit of the doubt, deeming it an innocent mistake. Peep some of the comments left under this X post below…

@RabbitsCrypto commented, “Even me as an European know the exact date. April 9th, 1865”

@ChetterHub wrote, “When the sitting president treats the Civil War like a pop quiz he forgot to study for, it’s not just embarrassing, it’s dangerous.”

@Nando571707 wrote, “I’m curious to see how long the American people will continue to put up with this circus. Unbelievable, this bunch”

@PU239WarmingHut wrote, “I’d bet less than 10% of your followers knew it was 1866.”

@HowanykRandy wrote, “You would think his Chief of Staff Wiles would coach him a little bit before he spoke.”

@brichaman wrote, “The constant ‘I have no idea what I’m talking about but if I turn and look at one of my cronies and they nod yes I must be correct’ is exhausting and embarrassing.”

@TilloJames27 wrote, “It ended in 1865. Are you actually trying to call him stupid because he couldn’t recall the exact year off the top of his head?”

@thefootdaddy wrote, “This is what happens when you don’t stick to the script your staff have given you. The leader of the country doesn’t even know its own history. No wonder its crumbling to s**t.”

The Supreme Court Acts On Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Order

The Supreme Court handed him a 6-3 victory, limiting lower courts’ power to issue nationwide injunctions that block his policies. This means his executive order to end automatic birthright citizenship can partially take effect in 30 days, although legal challenges are still pending.

Trump was clearly ecstatic about the news, calling it a “monumental victory for the Constitution, the separation of powers, and the rule of law.”

Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that the birthright citizenship issue “will be decided in October” by the Supreme Court, although no case is currently confirmed on the docket. Meanwhile, Justice Sonia Sotomayor clapped back in her dissent, calling the decision “an open invitation for the government to bypass the Constitution.”

Trump Says He’d “Absolutely” Consider Bombing Iran Again

As if the history flub wasn’t enough to spark online chatter, Trump had also raised eyebrows when he switched gears to Iran. After recent U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, he told reporters he’d “absolutely” consider bombing the country again if their uranium enrichment escalated. He claimed Iran’s facilities were “beat to hell” and urged their leader to “concede defeat.” This follows a failed Senate vote to limit his war powers, leaving some lawmakers heated about his unchecked moves.
