Echo's Alaqua Cox Reveals Which MCU Hero She Wants Maya to Cross Paths With Next

The following contains spoilers for Echo, now streaming on Disney+.

Echo star Alaqua Cox recently shared which superhero she wants to cross paths with next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During an interview with CinemaBlend, Cox teased her character Maya Lopez’s future in the MCU following her Disney+ miniseries. “I can see Maya appearing in more Daredevil stuff for sure. And, maybe the new Avengers is something I would like to think about. That would be awesome to see that happen. So, fingers crossed,” she said via an ASL interpreter. When asked if there was any hero she would most like to meet in the MCU, Cox shared that the “first person that comes to mind is WandaVision or Scarlet Witch. I’d love to see her.”

Who Has Maya Lopez Already Met in the MCU?

Maya Lopez, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name that debuted in Daredevil #9 in 1999, made her MCU debut in the 2021 Disney+ series Hawkeye, portrayed by Cox. In the fan-favorite show, Maya crossed paths with both Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop/Hawkeye. A flashback in her self-titled series Echo also revealed that she briefly fought Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) during The Blip.

Echo is the first installment under the Marvel Spotlight banner, a new initiative at Marvel Studios that aims to tell more “character-driven” stories with its shows while breaking away from Marvel’s big-budget model. In the MCU series, per the official synopsis, “Maya Lopez is being pursued by Wilson Fisk’s organization, leading her to return to her hometown in Oklahoma, where she must come to terms with her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace her family and community.”

Could Echo Return for a Second Season?

Although Echo was marketed as a limited series, co-head writer Amy Rardin recently teased that the show could return for a second season following the announcement that it was the most-watched series premiere on Disney+ and Hulu. “I feel like if we’re lucky enough to have a Season 2, I think I could watch the Maya-Kingpin show all day,” Rardin teased. “She’s not done with him, and he’s not done with her, so I think there are unlimited storytelling possibilities there.”

She continued, “Oh, gosh. I feel like what’s interesting about these two characters is that they both know each other so well. And I think that Maya’s power over Fisk is that she knows that he loves her, and that’s a lot of power, and she knows him probably better than a lot of people, and vice versa. And so, I think to have these two emotional chess players manipulate each other could be really interesting.”

All episodes of Echo are streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
