The bizarre displays came ahead of the clash with Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley, London, last night.

Both the enthusiastic fans – one squatting and one being held in a handstand – were caught on camera without trousers or underwear with red flares placed in intimate areas.

Other bewildered supporters watched and jeered in apparent disbelief but, following England’s defeat on penalties just hours later, many have been left wondering how the dubbed ‘flare a**e men’ are now feeling.

The clips began circulating on social media on Sunday but people have since been reflecting on the goings on in light of the England defeat.

The official account of Paddy Power was one of the first to react in a post that read: ‘All things considered, I doubt Richard Branson would have expected his billion-quid space-flight launch to be overshadowed by a guy with a flare up his a*** in central London.’

And others were quick to follow suit as one wrote: ‘I am wondering what the man who stuck the flare up his backside is thinking this morning.’

Another added: ‘If you’re disappointed this morning, just spare a thought for the guy who shoved a flare up his backside. Imagine how he’s feeling.’

And a third commented: ‘All I’m saying is. If I was going to put a flare up my backside and light it. It would be AFTER my team wins.’

It comes as he big clean-up after last night’s disappointing Euros final began in earnest this morning across London.

Street sweepers and rubbish collectors were out in force tidying up the roads and pathways as daylight broke.

Unsurprisingly Wembley had some of the worst litter left over by the thousands of fans who left the stadium.

And the West End also bore the marks of the late night loss as crestfallen supporters’ rubbish was strewn across the ground.

Among the abandoned items were England flags and memorabilia jettisoned after the team fell at the final hurdle on penalties.

England’s dreams of Euro 2020 glory were shattered at Wembley last night as they lost to Italy on penalties – extending the ’55 years of hurt’ but leaving the nation expressing pride at the Three Lions’ achievements.

Despite two spot-kick saves from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, England’s Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed their efforts to hand the Italians a 3-2 shootout win after a nerve-shredding 120 minutes had ended 1-1.
