FLASHBACK: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Cheered on Federal Jan. 6 Probe, Encouraged Pro-Trump Patriots to be Thrown Behind Bars

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is being triumphed by the Republican establishment as the acceptable alternative to President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election.

Although he has a solid record in Florida for the most part, DeSantis has many red flags that make it clear why the entrenched GOP elites are pushing him over Trump.

DeSantis’ comments following the Jan. 6, 2021 election protests in the U.S. Capitol are particularly abhorrent. He refused to stand with the patriotic protesters that day and actually applauded as the unconstitutional, overreaching federal probe destroyed their rights.

“I actually am glad to see some of these people being arrested from the DC thing because I think the prosecutions will really make a difference,” he said shortly after the Jan. 6 protest. “I think it was a really unfortunate thing.”

Even more shamefully, DeSantis defended the Capitol police thugs who acted as Nancy Pelosi’s personal Gestapo. He has also allowed Capitol police to come into Florida and set up an illegal spying operation on patriots in his state without doing a thing to stop them.

“I can tell you those Capitol Police, on the ground, that was a very difficult situation,” DeSantis said. “And they could have done it in a way that you would have had huge number of people die as a result of that.”

“I think those guys [Capitol Police] deserve a lot of credit in a situation like that, to be able to steer a huge mob of people away from doing a lot of other people harm, so good on them,” he added.

DeSantis made those comments after it was already known that Capitol police murdered Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt in cold blood.

Big League Politics has reported on the Soviet-style abuses that Jan. 6 defendants have been forced to endure over the unconstitutional probe supported by DeSantis:

A defense attorney for a Jan. 6 defendant has compared the treatment of his client to Soviet Russia and claimed he has “never seen such a blatant disregard for inmates’ rights.”

“The DC Jail is more reminiscent of Solzhenistyn’s ‘One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich’ than it is of any remotely acceptable penal institution,” the attorney wrote in a filing.
