Four inmates have been charged after allegedly inciting a fiery riot and climbing onto the roof of their prison.
On July 12, 14 inmates allegedly lit fires within the prison wings of Parklea Correctional Centre in Sydney’s west on Monday
A group of them climbed onto the roof with weapons as other inmates refused to take guards’ directions.
Four inmates aged in their early 20s were arrested at Riverstone Police Station in the afternoon of Friday.
The inmates were charged with rioting and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.

Flames could be seen through windows of the jail, as fires raged in one building and smoke billowed out of the roof vents.

Those on the rooftop played up to photographers as guards tried to assert control over the situation and Fire and Rescue NSW attended the blaze.

In the prison yards down below, another 50 inmates also confronted staff who used ‘chemical munitions’ to clear the area, said a spokesman for Ventia which runs the prison.
Correctional Centre Governor Paul Baker praised the jail’s Security Operations Group and the centre’s Immediate Response Team officers for safely resolving the incident.
‘The officers have done an excellent job, utilising their specialised training, to resolve this situation safely,’ he said.
