Furiosa Photos Reveal the Mad Max Prequel’s Unrecognizable Anya Taylor-Joy

- Advertisment -

Behind-the-scenes photos from Warner Bros.’s upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa, offer a look at an almost unrecognizable Anya Taylor-Joy.

Behind-the-scenes photos from the set of George Miller’s Mad Max prequel, Furiosa, offer a look at the film’s star, Anya Taylor-Joy.

Shared on Twitter by the Daily Mail, the photos show the almost unrecognizable Queen’s Gambit actor, who is set to play Furiosa in the upcoming prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Based on the photos, Taylor-Joy has traded in her usual platinum blonde hair for messy, matted brown locks with tattered clothing to match the dystopian world she must survive in.

Furiosa began filming in June, as confirmed by Thor: Love and Thunder‘s Chris Hemsworth, who is also starring in the film in a currently unconfirmed role. Hemsworth was equally unrecognizable in photos released from the Furiosa set in July, showing the actor with long red hair and a mustache. Though his role in the film has not yet been confirmed, reports from February state that the actor will be playing a character named Dr. Dementus who will serve as the film’s villain.

According to Furiosa‘s synopsis, the film takes place before the events of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, which was also directed by Miller and starred Charlize Theron as an older version of the character. The film will follow a young Furiosa after she is “snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.” As they traverse the Wasteland, they encounter The Immortan Joe and Furiosa “must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”

More behind-the-scenes photos were released in June while the film was shooting in Australia, offering a first look at Furiosa‘s fearsome vehicles, including dirtbikes and an armored car. Miller announced the upcoming spinoff/prequel in 2019 and Furiosa received an official release date from Warner Bros. in 2020 though it was later moved to 2024.

Mad Max: Fury Road starred Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky and Theron as Furiosa, as well as Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays Byrne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Zoë Kravitz, Abbey Lee, and Courtney Eaton. As for the prequel, Taylor-Joy was cast as Furiosa in October 2020. Acting alongside Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth is Tom Burke (War & Peace), who will be appearing in an undisclosed role previously held by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who left the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Furiosa is slated to arrive in theaters on May 24, 2024.
