An angry dad has shamed his children’s New York school district over their pathetic cafeteria lunches.

Chris Vangellow complained that Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District, in upstate New York, was ‘failing’ students with such an ‘unappetizing’ food.

He also posted a photo of his son’s lunch, which included four shriveled chicken nuggets, a side of dry-looking carrots, along with plain white rice and a small carton of fat-free chocolate milk.

‘I think the Parishville School Lunches might be a bit lacking a bit. even for a kid that isn’t 6’5 like Ash,’ he wrote on Facebook on January 12. ‘if this was a game day I don’t think any of the team would be getting enough energy from something like this.’

He claimed that one of his other kids didn’t have any ‘dry tasteless carrots’ because none were available when he arrived later and that his kid didn’t even attempt to eat the plain rice because it was ‘not very appetizing.’

He said his kids have been complaining ‘that since the lunches are now free for everyone, the portions have dropped,’ which he said is ridiculous.

Vangellow added that just because the food is free doesn’t mean it should be such bad quality and said although he can provide his family with alternative lunch if needed there are some students that rely on the food provided by the school and what they were offering was unacceptable.

‘Don’t come at me with the ‘you get what you pay for’ or ”just send them with food” crap either,’ the dad wrote. ‘Yeah we can do that and and sometimes the kids do choose to bring something from home or will buy extra lunch to get more in them to get them through a day.’

‘The problem is that not all families can do that,’ he continued. ‘We don’t live in a very rich area. Some kids may not get much or anything when at home and this is what they have to survive on. The rely on the meals that the school provides. This is what they get though. In my opinion, this is failing those kids.’

The dad also posted pictures of other lunches served by the school that looked just as unappealing and meager.

In response to the post, Superintendent William E. Collins conceded that ‘many students and parents are dissatisfied with school lunches.’

He argued that ‘in fairness to the cafeteria, students are allowed one more serving of fruits or vegetables and one additional nugget than appeared in the photograph.’

But he said he and the school’s cafeteria manager were creating a group to address the dissatisfaction and discuss how to improve them.

Dr. Collins told Fox News that the school contracts through the Boards of Cooperative Educational Services for their food.

‘We fall under the same nutritional guidelines as every public school in the nation, so there are limitations on just how varied school lunches can be from one school to another,’ Collins added,

‘Some of the lunches in the photos are misleading because they show incomplete serving sizes that do not contain all of the choices available to students going through the lunch line; however, it is clear that many students and parents would like to see a change,’ Dr. Collins added.
