The motorist, who was 'literally shaking', spoke angrily to camera asking whether she was 'in the wrong'

A furious radio presenter was called a ‘f******’ idiot and ‘nutter’ by cyclists after she lambasted them for riding two by two in front of her on a country road.

Chellce AJ had been driving along the track before she was forced to pull over because the pair refused to cycle in single file.

The motorist, who was ‘literally shaking’, spoke angrily to camera asking whether she was ‘in the wrong’.

But a little-known Highways Code clause prompted social media users to respond saying strictly speaking she was ‘wrong’ – even if the encounter was ‘annoying’.

In her video, she explained: ‘I’m on a country lane and there’s a guy cycling and someone cycling next to him so there’s two of them literally in the middle of the road.’

But before she could finish her sentence, the Manchester-bred presenter was interrupted by one of the cyclists who shouted ‘f*****’ idiot.

The two exchanged angry words and debated the ‘rules of the road’ with the cyclist accusing Chellce of acting like she ‘owns the road’ because she is in a ‘big flashy car’.

Since the video was uploaded to Instagram on Monday it has received a number of comments.

Many people have referenced part of Rule 66 of the Highway Code which says while cyclists must ‘be considerate of the needs of other road users’, they can ‘ride two abreast and it can be safer to do so’.

New rules introduced in January 2022 allowed – and advised – cyclists to ride in the centre of lanes on quieter roads, in slower-moving traffic, and when approaching junctions, to make themselves as visible as possible.

But the code also says cyclists should be aware of people driving behind them and allow them to overtake when it is safe to do so.

Responding to Chellce AJ’s video, one person said: ‘You’re technically in the wrong.

‘See rule 66 of the highway code. It can also be safer for the cyclists, probably particularly on a country road.’

Another person said: ‘Read the highway code, you are clueless.’

While a third added: ‘Why do you think you’re more important than somebody else?’

However, someone validated the frustration, saying: ‘Yes you are wrong but I feel you it is annoying.’

Social media users also seemed fairly split on the issue, with 56 per cent of more than 3,700 voters on a poll saying Chellce AJ was not in the wrong – and 44 per cent saying she was.

The results came in after the presenter recorded herself saying furiously: ‘It’s a country road and you’re cycling as a two.

‘Everybody knows you cycle in single file.’

The cyclist responded saying he had been ‘riding this road for years’ to which Chellce AJ said she had been ‘driving this road for years’.

He then shouted ‘Sorry – I didn’t realise you run the bloody roads.’

There were a few supporters who left comments such as one who said ‘More entitled cyclists’ and another who added ‘Cyclists do my head in!’

Amid the new rules which came into effect in January 2022, many motorists complained about cyclists deliberately hogging the centre of the road and causing pile-ups of traffic behind them.

Steve Bulley, the vice president of the Dorchester Chamber of Business, said a group of cyclists stayed in the centre of the road for eight miles.

He vented: ‘The day cyclist took over the roads. This lots refused to let cars past for 8 miles looking back and laughing. #cycling #HighwayCode #selfish.’
