The video game industry rushes to Insomniac Games’ defense after the leak of its Marvel game slate and more.
The video game industry is showing its support for Insomniac Games after the PlayStation studio behind Marvel’s Spider-Man was hacked and had its private information leaked online.
According to IGN, a group of hackers known as the Rhysida ransomware gang hacked into the servers of Insomniac Games and leaked over a terabyte of internal data online, after threatening the Spider-Man developers that it would do just that if its financial ransom wasn’t met. The leak reportedly details the studio’s future collaborations with Marvel Games, such as the Marvel’s Spider-Man series and the upcoming Wolverine game. However, the most damaging outcome of Insomiac’s servers being compromised was the leaking of employees’ personal information.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Team Teases a Hero’s Future in the Insomniac Timeline
The narrative director and advanced writer behind Marvel Spider-Man 2’s story hype up their plans for the game’s last-minute character reveal.
“My team and I have been living in sheer terror of a leak until announced,” Dinga Bakaba of Arkane Studios (Marvel’s Blade) said on social media platform X. “When rumors started circulating I had my first physical symptoms of stress in decades and legit had nightmares every night. This type of thing hurts, and Insomniacs deserve our decency, care, and support right now.” Cory Barlog, the creative director at Santa Monica Studio (God of War), expressed similar sentiments of support for the developers at Insomniac.
Neil Druckmann, the head of Naughty Dog and co-creator of The Last of Us franchise, also showed support to his fellow PlayStation developers. “To our friends at Insomniac Games, we can’t wait to experience your next games whenever YOU feel they’re ready! Until then we’ll remain your patient fans!” Video game studios like Remedy Entertainment (Alan Wake 2) and Wushu Studios (Fall Guys, Baldur’s Gate 3) are also sending supporting messages to Insomniac Games, while also condemning the cyberattack that befell them. Below are a few examples of support towards Insomniac Games on X (formerly Twitter).
