NYPD released shocking surveillance footage on Monday of a brutal Bronx mugging, where two attackers (pictured) punched and kicked the victim before robbing him
Police are working to solve three unsettling crimes, each in a different NYC borough, punctuating a dangerous and violent end to July, with shootings and crime spiking citywide in 2021.
On Saturday, a Honduran immigrant, 25, was found shot to death in Queens while wearing women’s clothing, according to the New York Daily News.
Then, on Monday, a gunman opened fire in the upscale Brooklyn neighborhood of Boerum Hill, striking a man in the leg and leaving witnesses running for their lives.
Two days later, NYPD released surveillance footage from earlier this month of a brutal Bronx mugging, where two attackers punched and kicked the victim before stealing his phone and wallet.
The trio of crimes – no one had been arrested in any of them as of Thursday- are the latest among increased citywide shootings, robberies and assaults.
New York City has seen a 12.2 percent increase in robberies thus far in 2021 compared to last year, with 275 robbery reports in the first eight months of the year alone. There were 245 cases total in 2020.
The city also had a 10.1 percent spike in felony assaults, NYPD’s CompStat reports.

The shooter (pictured), who has yet to be apprehended, managed to hit a 53-year-old man who police believe was the intended target
Over the July Fourth holiday weekend alone, 150 people were fatally shot in 400 separate shooting incidents nationwide, according to the Daily News.
Meanwhile, overall crime in the city was up slightly in June, mostly due to an increase in car thefts and other robberies.
The crimes during the past week making headlines are especially unsettling amid the citywide rash of violence.
In the Bronx on July 7, two unidentified muggers beat up and robbed a 25-year-old man near the corner of Jerome Avenue and East 171st Street in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx, Pix 11 reports.
The victim in that attack was left with minor injuries, according to authorities. Police were still searching for both men involved in the violent robbery as of Thursday.
On Monday, the NYPD released a disturbing video of a gunman opening fire during the day in Brooklyn’s tony Boerum Hill.
NYPD released another disturbing video on Wednesday, showing a vicious assault and robbery in the Bronx from earlier this month

Neither of the two men involved in the July 7 mugging have been identified or arrested as of Thursday
Pix 11 reported that the incident occurred just before 9 am on Monday. Police said an unidentified, masked man fired multiple shots at another man standing on the corner of Wyckoff and Hoyt streets.
The 53-year-old target was struck in the leg and treated at a nearby hospital.
Video of the shooting released Monday shows a terrified woman with a baby stroller and another pedestrian running away from the scene.
No one was arrested in that case either, according to police.
Meanwhile, a few days earlier police responded to gunfire at about 2:45 am Saturday morning by 150th Street and 105th Avenue in Jamaica, Queens. They found the body of Albert Carrasco Serrato.
Serrato, the oldest of eight children, was shot to death, with police sources telling the Daily News that he had been discovered wearing women’s clothing. His family, however, questions the description.
NYPD’s CompStat shows a slight increase in total crimes in July 2021 when compared to the same time period last year
Robberies, grand larcenies and felony assaults are among the crimes that are spiking citywide
Shootings so far this year have steadily increased since January, with a small dip in June and July
The 25-year-old immigrant from Honduras was rushed to nearby Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
‘He worked to pay the rent,’ said sister Maria Carrasco Serrato, 12. ‘He used to work in construction, building buildings.’
‘He celebrated my birthday with me and he always passes the time with me. When I used to fail a test he always helped me out.’
Police are searching for this man (pictured) in relation to 25-year-old Honduran immigrant Albert Carrasco Serrato’s shooting death in Queens on Saturday
Meanwhile, the rest of Serrato’s family is trying to make sense of his untimely passing.
‘This is confusing,’ said the victimās uncle Pedro Carrasco Serrato, 42.
‘I just want to know whatās happened. If he had a dress on, why? Who was with him? Because somebody had to be with him. Heās not the kind of person to go alone. Heās really a scaredy-cat. Heād see a little mouse and heād be on top of the roof.’
Albertās brother, William Carrasco Serrato, echoed his uncle’s sentiment.
‘Theyāre showing us a different life,’ said William, 20, of Albert’s alleged cross-dressing.
‘The way I know him is, heās a really nice guy always trying to help everyone, making jokes, making us laugh. The way it happened is really difficult for us to understand. Like it doesnāt match. A completely different guy.’
