Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest in Edo

Gunmen have kidnapped a priest in charge of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Ikabigbo community, Etsako West Local Government of Edo State, Rev. Fr. Christopher Odia. 

 

It was gathered that Odia, of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, was preparing for Mass on Sunday morning, June 26, when the gunmen stormed his residence and whisked him away to unknown destination. 

 

According Daily Trust that the community vigilante group are already combing the bush to rescue the priest.

 

A source within the community told the publication that the gunmen had shot one the community boys searching for the priest.

 

He added that the victim was rushed to a hospital at Auchi but referred to Irrua specialist hospital for treatment. 

 

The traditional ruler of the community, Bramah Alegeh, who confirmed the abduction, said the police and the army in collaboration with local vigilante were combing the bushes to rescue the priest.
