Hayden Panettiere sent fans into a frenzy once again as she unveiled her latest hair transformation after dying it red

Hayden Panettiere sent fans into a frenzy once again as she unveiled her latest hair transformation.

The former Nashville star, 36, who has been candid about her personal struggles, had shocked fans a few months ago by swapping her signature blonde for a fiery red mane.

Known for her platinum tresses in hits like Heroes and the Scream franchise, the bold change was certainly a departure from her usual look.

But it seems Hayden was ready for a switch, as she recently took to Instagram to reveal her lighter, sun-kissed locks.

The actress looked radiant as she flashed a beaming smile from the hair salon chair, while her stylist showcased the long, golden strands in all their glory.

‘Fun, laughs, and good hair days with the fabulous @erickohair,’ she captioned the snap, keeping her fans swooning over the transformation.

Fans quickly flooded the comment section to applaud Hayden’s hair move, with one gushing, ‘You look so good and healthy.’

Another chimed in, ‘The content we live for… that smile,’ while yet another added, ‘Golden-haired angel.’

Hayden has been refreshingly candid about her struggles with hair loss, reflecting on the thinning strands she suffered during periods of substance abuse.

Speaking to Women’s Health in 2023, the actress opened up about what prompted her to begin her sobriety journey in 2021.

‘I struggled with sleep deprivation. Sleep is massive. It affects your motor skills, your ability to think, and your overall health,’ she explained.

She added, ‘My body was like, “enough.” I hit 30. My face was swollen. I had jaundice. My eyes were yellow. I had to go to a liver specialist. I was holding on to weight that wasn’t normally there.

‘My hair was thin and coming out in clumps.’

Last year, in 2024, concern for Hayden’s wellbeing spiked after fans noticed her seemingly slurred words during interviews.

The actress has battled opioid addiction and substance abuse in the past but has remained in recovery since 2021.

In September 2024, she opened up to People about the heartbreaking death of her younger brother Jansen, who tragically passed away at 28 from an undiagnosed heart condition called cardiomegaly in February 2023.

A ‘concerning’ clip from that interview quickly went viral, with fans also noting the discussion about her daughter Kaya.

Many speculated Hayden was ‘not sober’ due to her slurred speech and exhausted appearance.

Shortly after, Hayden addressed the backlash on her own Instagram, writing: ‘It’s unfathomable that I’m even in this position, but I feel forced to address it in a space where I won’t be criticised for how fast or slow I speak.’

She explained that she hadn’t slept for two days before the shoot due to a pet emergency that required surgery.

‘It was an 8-hour shoot followed by an on-camera interview that was supposed to last for 1 hour. The interview started well, and for the record, its beginning is not included in the version People Magazine posted. I was exhausted.

‘My rep stopped the interview early as it became obvious that I was fading – especially as the subject matter became heavier.’

Hayden asked to re-do the interview but was told ‘that it wasn’t necessary’ and added, ‘The magazine does not grant approval for images or video interviews before they run. We see the interview when it goes live.’

The actress expressed that, ‘Grief looks different on everyone. Whether or not I am on medication is none of anyone’s business and is between me and my doctor.’

She also added, ‘The real issue here is the toxicity of social media, and a news cycle that is driven by click bait.

‘Mental health is so important, and I hope those reading this now understand that what you say hiding behind a computer screen can have a detrimental impact on someone.’

Hayden concluded with, ‘For those of you who have come to my defense amidst this chaos I am so grateful. Like I’ve said before, I am a work in progress. We all are.’

However, she sparked worry once again as she sat down for a separate interview on Today.

During the interview, she promoted her film Amber Alert – as well as talking about her late brother and mental health.

In regards to her mental health following her brother’s death, Hayden said, ‘I thought that people would have empathy, was going to be the only thing that was there, but I had no idea how my body, my mind, was going to react to grief.

‘It’s wild what stress and grief and all these hormones and running through your body can do…

She added, ‘I mean, make you faint. My mother, when she got stressed – she’s gonna kill me for saying this – she used to get knots on her head. It comes in all different forms, so nobody should be embarrassed by it or judged for it.’

When asked if she has ‘processed’ her brother’s death, Panettiere admitted, ‘I don’t know that I fully have. I think it’s something that transforms over time.’

Beyond her hair transformations and recent public appearances, Hayden has also been refreshingly open about a long and difficult battle with substance abuse.

She has revealed that her struggles began as a teenager, when she was given pills on set to cope with the pressures of fame, and continued into adulthood with alcohol and opioids, particularly during periods of postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter in 2014.

Following multiple stints in rehab, beginning in 2015 and again in 2021, Hayden has committed to sobriety, describing it as an ‘everyday choice’ that requires vigilance.

Today, she credits these experiences with giving her perspective and gratitude, and continues to focus on her recovery.

Her new memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning releases May 12th.
