A Kangaroo Point resident heard the man screaming for help from inside the storm water network in Brisbane 's CBD on Monday night

A man has become trapped underground for 36 hours after he fell down a drain while trying to retrieve his phone.

A Kangaroo Point resident heard the man screaming for help from inside the storm water network in Brisbane’s CBD on Monday night.

It’s understood the man was forced to drink the rainwater to survive and spent most of his time underground crawling on his hands and knees.

He was rushed to the Mater Hospital in the city’s south where he was treated for hypothermia and non-life threatening injuries.

More to come.
