House of the Dragon Season 2's Release Window Confirmed

Season 2 of House of the Dragon is now confirmed to be premiering in June 2024.

Previously, there were reports that the second season of House of the Dragon was planned for a Summer 2024 premiere on HBO and Max. Per Variety, it’s now been revealed that Season 2 will premiere in June. This is the most information yet that has been given about the Game of Thrones prequel show’s return, though a specific day of the month has not yet been named. The June 2024 window was confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery’s J.B. Perrette during an interview on Monday at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media, and Telecom conference.

Can an Arya Stark Game of Thrones Spinoff Work Without Maisie Williams?

If Maisie Williams decides to never return to the world of Game of Thrones, could there really be any chance for an Arya Stark spinoff?

Season 1 of House of the Dragon debuted in August 2022 and was wrapped up with its 10-episode run by October of that year. Fans have been patiently waiting ever since to see where the story might go next. It had been expected from almost the start that a second season would be made, as the renewal news came just one week after the show’s premiere. Whether it will have a similar run as its predecessor remains to be seen, though the show has been off to a great start with high ratings and positive reviews.

House of the Dragon 2 Could Have Had a Longer Wait

While there has been a wait for Season 2, it could have been even longer if the show fell victim to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023. Season 2 started filming in April 2023, but it was unaffected by the WGA strike, as the scripts had already been finished by the time the strike began the following month. It was also unaffected by the SAG-AFTRA strike because the show is an Equity UK contract production.

Shogun Is Perfect For Game of Thrones Fans

FX’s Shōgun stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Monarch’s Anna Sawai, but the series about feudal Japan is made for fans who love the Game of Thrones franchise.

One big change for the new season is a shake-up that happened behind the scenes. The first season of the Game of Thrones spinoff was developed with Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal serving as co-showrunners, but it was announced ahead of the second season’s production that Sapochnik would not be returning for Season 2. Condal would then step up as the sole showrunner of the series.

House of the Dragon stars Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, Olivia Cooke, Graham McTavish, Matthew Needham, Jefferson Hall, and Harry Collett.

Season 1 of House of the Dragon is streaming on Max, while Season 2 will premiere in June.
