A romantic Valentine’s Day message with a simple ‘I love you’ and a few saucy texts – at first glance they’re no different than most new couples.

But mother-of-four Sarah-Jane Lodington’s alleged love affair with David Gardiner was anything but ordinary.

The now disgraced prison psychologist is accused of exchanging steamy texts, many too explicit to print, with the inmate after allegedly having sex with two prisoners in the space of a year at Queensland’s Palen Creek Correctional Centre.

She has now been seen for the first time since the X-rated texts came to light, looking a world away from the glamorous woman who took selfies and allegedly sent them to lusty inmates.

After pleading guilty to several charges surrounding the relationships, the 41-year-old Mudgeeraba woman is now facing a case in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal to remain registered as a psychologist after being suspended in 2019.

The tribunal has been shown a litany of explicit messages officials claim were exchanged between Lodington and the men.

Chats with Gardiner began with flirty messages, but soon developed into shirtless pictures, brooding selfies and sex-fuelled chat – before taking on a more amorous nature.

Only months after her alleged relationship with convicted drug trafficker Allen Marcel Milos ended in 2018, Lodington is accused of becoming embroiled in another passionate affair in 2019, this time with Gardiner.

Both relationships happened at the low-security jail about 100km south of Brisbane, it is alleged.

Using a phone that Lodington allegedly gave him, Gardiner sent her semi-naked photos of himself during their steamy 18-day fling.

On February 3, he sent her a photo of his own bare torso, stomach and underwear waistband, messages procured by the Health Ombudsman show.

At a 2020 hearing, a court heard she bought a mobile phone at Kmart and set it up using a prisoner’s identification without his knowledge.

By February 9, 2019 Lodington had saved Gardiner’s number under the nickname ‘My love’ when he texted her ‘I’ll wait for U’.

Two days later Gardiner’s brooding shirtless selfie arrived in her phone.

On Valentine’s Day, he texted her a late night message that read: ‘I love U’.

Another intense shirtless selfie followed three days later.

By February 19 she was openly reciprocating, tribunal documents allege.

‘Did you get my message baby?’ she wrote to him.

‘Msg me when you can talk love u.’

The next morning at 6.02am she texted him, saying: ‘I am floating through life right now and am forgetful which is because I’m totally obsessing over you!’

That day the pair exchanged messages continuously and before 9am she was discussing the desire to get pregnant to him.

‘I’m so excited for our future and making a precious bubba with you,’ she said.

By 5pm the same day, she allegedly texted him: ‘F*** the world and everyone in it. We have each other that’s all that matters’.

He responded by offering to cook her dinner when he got ‘full access’ to her.

At 1am on February 21, she allegedly sent him a selfie in work clothes, then two days later she sent him specially posed photos, smiling, with her hair down.

At 7.24am the same day, she said to have written back: ‘I’m still in bed was up til 3am talking and modelling for you!’

On February 24, Lodington was helping Gardiner, who was in prison over a ‘violent offence’, with his parole application.

‘I will change the wording on the RPP (relapse plan) to highlight it’s a one off but still needs to be nullified by showing you’re taking responsibility, understand the seriousness of it and have insight into how it happened and impact on ‘victims’,’ she allegedly wrote.

From there, the affair only escalated further, it is alleged.

The next day, she allegedly wrote to Gardiner: ‘You are the epitome of what I think it means to be a man and you make me feel safe and protected, loved and I’m so blessed to be your girl.’

Two days later she appeared to be reflecting on a sex with him when she apparently wrote: ‘I so loved last night… I think you’re an amazing lover and I absolutely loved [too explicit].

‘I’ve never had more pleasure in my life and when I think about the fact that we were [too explicit] it just blows my mind.’

Lodington, now 41, is trying to avoid being struck off as a psychologist in a case before the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

In 2020, Southport Magistrates Court heard Lodington was under considerable stress from a previous violent estranged husband and personal debts.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of abuse of office, confidential information and take or attempt to take a prohibited thing into a corrective services facility.

She was sentenced to two years probation with no conviction recorded.
