Indiana Republicans have just dealt a big blow to President Trump’s redistricting efforts ahead of next year’s midterm elections. According to Indiana’s Republican Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray, the GOP-controlled upper chamber does not have the votes to move ahead with redistricting at a special session that was going to be held in December.
In his Friday afternoon announcement, Bray remarked:
“Over the last several months, Senate Republicans have given very serious and thoughtful consideration to the concept of redrawing our state’s congressional maps. Today, I’m announcing there are not enough votes to move that idea forward, and the Senate will not reconvene in December.”
Lawmakers were scheduled to start meeting on December 1st to begin the process of drawing new boundaries, with the goal of redrawing the lines so that all nine congressional districts favored Republicans. This would presumably lead to the GOP picking up two seats in the House of Representatives during next year’s midterms; the GOP currently holds a razor-thin majority of 219-214.
🚨BREAKING NEWS — Indiana Republicans have REBUKED President Trump’s call to redraw the state’s district map.
They’re flat out refusing to redraw the 2026 Congressional map.
It could have added TWO Republican seats.
Total cowardice.

Bray’s announcement was immediately met with fierce backlash from fellow Republicans. Gov. Mike Braun, who supported the redistricting effort and called for the special legislative session, was clearly not best pleased:
“I called for our legislators to convene to ensure Hoosiers’ voices in Washington, D.C., are not diluted by the Democrats’ gerrymandering,” Braun said in a statement released by the governor’s office Friday. “Our state senators need to do the right thing and show up to vote for fair maps. Hoosiers deserve to know where their elected officials stand on important issues.”
Chris LaCivita, who served as Trump’s co-campaign manager in 2024, dropped a not-so-subtle hint that careers could be ended over the capitulation.

And another Trump advisor, Alex Brueswitz, called the move “a monumental betrayal” of the president.
A MONUMENTAL BETRAYAL IS UNFOLDING IN INDIANA RIGHT NOW.
Spineless RINO “legislators” have sabotaged and buried Republicans’ vital redistricting push. And they are letting Gavin Newsom & left-wing Democrats get closer to stealing the house.
The weak as hell State Senate… https://t.co/jJ7mRaNXrq

Spineless RINO “legislators” have sabotaged and buried Republicans’ vital redistricting push. And they are letting Gavin Newsom & left-wing Democrats get closer to stealing the house.
The weak as hell State Senate President @bray_rodric doesn’t even have the guts to put redistricting up for a vote!
I was just in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Monday, rallying HUNDREDS of fired-up patriots who are unanimously demanding redistricting reform. Every genuine Republican across the state stands firmly behind it, yet these treacherous RINOs stonewall and sabotage at every turn.
Our party can no longer afford to harbor these gutless, self-serving traitors who stab us in the back while accomplishing absolutely nothing.
The entire MAGA movement will be mobilizing to Indiana to PRIMARY and OUST every last RINO blocking these essential reforms to RESCUE our nation, this will include the totally clueless and weak State Senate President.
Will get a full list of the RINOs who are obstructing shortly. What a disgrace!
President Trump had been lobbying hard for the Indiana GOP to help give the party a cushion going into the midterm elections. He held a phone meeting with lawmakers in October urging them the heed Gov. Braun’s call to hold a special redistricting session. Following that call, sentiment seemed to be with the president, with one Republican saying “a fight to our doorstep that we did not ask for and Hoosiers rightfully scoff at but we must use every legal means at our disposal to counter this with a redistricting effort.”
The White House has yet to make a public response to Bray’s statement, but there are reports that the administration is summoning Indiana lawmakers to D.C., for “meetings.”
Editor’s Note: President Trump is leading America into the “Golden Age” as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
