President Trump and his administration have worked tirelessly to end the war in Ukraine. That much is obvious. While the war continues, it’s easy for outsiders to poke holes at the overall effort by the administration — but it’s clear they want the war to end and the killing to stop. President Trump has met with both world leaders, and Secretary Rubio is consistently working behind the scenes to bring both sides together in order to reach a peace agreement.
The detractors and those who have a vendetta against President Trump are working overtime to subvert his efforts and, in one case, it seems, keep the war going. We know that President Trump and former National Security Advisor John Bolton have a storied history. Bolton is known broadly for his betrayal of President Trump and his historical love for the military-industrial complex. He is recognized as someone who starts and prolongs warfighting, not someone who works to put an end to global conflicts. This time is no different.
During a recent interview with France 24, Bolton suggested that Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky essentially ignore President Trump’s peace efforts — stating that Trump is just after the Nobel Peace Prize.
I think it’s a mistake for Ukraine to make concessions at this point. I don’t think Donald Trump is really motivated by U.S. national security interest or the issues for NATO or Ukrainian interest, I think he wants the Nobel Peace Prize. I think it’s been on his mind since the first term. He knows Barack Obama got one and didn’t deserve it, which I think a lot of Americans agree with, but that’s not a reason to give Trump a Nobel Peace Prize when he doesn’t deserve it either.
I am so tired of this lazy notion from the left that President Trump is only working to end the war in Ukraine to earn the Nobel Peace Prize. First of all, his efforts surrounding the Abraham Accords and negotiating peace between Israel and Hamas are historic. He does not need any other feathers in his cap in order to secure the peace prize. Now, whether he’ll get it from the Nobel committee is questionable in my opinion. Frankly, he should already have the award. Secondly, I don’t think he cares about the Nobel Peace Prize anymore; he’s once again the president of the United States. For critics like John Bolton, who have to work to remain relevant, it’s truly a pathetic argument.
Amazingly, this line about the Nobel Peace Prize in his interview with France 24 is not even the true jaw-dropper of the conversation. Bolton goes on to suggest that Ukraine lower its draft age from 25 to 18 years old.
NEW: Former National Security Adviser John Bolton, currently under federal indictment on 18 counts for mishandling classified information, told France 24 that Ukraine must lower its draft age from 25 to 18 to increase manpower and prevail against Russia.

I think Ukraine needs to do more to show the fight against corruption continues. You can have local elections in places where the Russians aren’t occupying. And I think — this is advice from a friend — I think they need to lower their draft age from 25 to 18 to get more manpower on the battlefield and to make sure that the country as a whole is bearing the burden of this war equally.
I’m not certain where to begin when analyzing how absurd I believe this statement is. Holy cow. This war has been going on for years. Bolton’s overall suggestion to Ukraine and its leadership is to: one, ignore any concessions coming from the Trump administration, and two, lower the war-fighting age to “get more manpower on the battlefield and to make sure that the country as a whole is bearing the burden of this war equally.” Wouldn’t adding more manpower to the battlefield prolong the war? Bolton doesn’t believe at this moment that young men in Ukraine are equally bearing the burden in this war? In many ways, the entire country is suffering at the hands of Russian aggression. This suggestion is absurd. In what world does adding more manpower for Ukraine help them defeat Russia? This would cause more heartache to the country and prolong the war with the same end result.
I understand fighting for your country. I understand the heartbreak of conceding land to Russia. I understand how angry Ukrainian families must feel. The destruction of historic cities. The rising death toll. All of it is infuriating. As hard as this has been for the Ukrainian people, at some point, they have to trust that President Trump and Secretary Rubio are working to get the best deal for the country.
I will say this as clearly as possible: If you are Ukrainian leadership and you’re reading this, please ignore John Bolton.
