More Details On The Judge’s Ruling On R. Kelly’s Request To Be Released To Home Detention
According to CBS News, U.S. District Judge Martha Pacold, a federal judge in Chicago, made the ruling on Thursday, June 19. The judge reportedly denied R. Kelly’s request for home detention. She reportedly noted that she does have the jurisdiction to rule on his lawyers’ claims that he’s facing a murder threat while being behind bars.
Additionally, the judge noted that since R. Kelly has already been convicted and sentenced, she now has limited jurisdiction over his case. Her authority now reportedly applies to whether Kelly would like to challenge his conviction or sentence.
“Kelly is currently housed at FCI Butner, which is located in Butner, North Carolina — outside this judicial district. Kelly has not demonstrated a legal basis for this court’s jurisdiction. Accordingly, his emergency motion … is denied,” the judge reportedly wrote in her decision.
Per USA Today, the judge’s ruling canceled out the planned hearing in Kelly’s case, which was scheduled for Friday, June 20.

More Details On R. Kelly’s Request To Be Released To Home Detention
As The Shade Room previously reported, earlier this month, R. Kelly’s legal team went public, alleging the singer was being targeted by prison officials in a murder plot. The team even went so far as to note their desire for the singer to be pardoned by President Trump.
Then, last week, R. Kelly was reportedly placed in solitary confinement with his “medication for anxiety and to help him sleep.” On the evening of June 12, he was allegedly given extra medication by prison staff. The following morning, he awoke feeling “dizzy” and “faint.” Ultimately, he was transferred from the Federal Correctional Institute in Durham, North Carolina, to Duke University Hospital in Durham.
At the hospital, the singer was told he had overdosed. Additionally, it was noted that the additional meds “threatened his life.” However, despite this, Kelly was released back to the facility, which reportedly denied him to undergo surgery for the blood clots in his legs and lungs.
Ultimately, Kelly’s legal team noted his request for temporary release, specifically asking for house arrest.
Afterward, the family of Joycelyn Savage shared their reaction to Kelly’s request. Additionally, Kelly’s legal team detailed that he recently broke down to his fears for his life. To note, per Page Six, the singer was convicted of sexually abusing minors in September 2021. Then, sentenced to 30 years in prison in June of 2022. Then, per the NY Post, in 2022, Kelly was also convicted of similar crimes in a separate case. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 19 to serve concurrently with his current sentence.
Per CBS News, currently, Kelly is expected to be released from prison on December 21, 2045, when he is nearly 79 years old.
