A Utah judge has made a few surprising decisions following several requests from Charlie Kirk’s suspected murderer, Tyler Robinson, ahead of his upcoming trial, granting the alleged assassin the right to wear street clothes but denying his request to appear unshackled, among others.
During a hearing on Monday in a Provo courthouse, Utah Fourth District Court Judge Tony Graf granted the defense attorney’s request to allow Robinson permission to wear civilian clothes in court, rather than a jail jumpsuit. However, the court ruled that the suspected killer will remain shackled for the duration of his court appearances.

“Defendant’s motion to appear in street clothes is granted,” Graf said. “Defendant’s motion to appear without restraint denied.”
The judge then imposed some restrictions on the media covering the case.
“The standing decorum order will be amended to prohibit any visual recording or photography of the defendant’s restraints or of the defendant entering or exiting the courtroom,” Graf said. “

The issue also came up about whether cameras should be allowed in the highly anticipated trial. Judge Graf said Monday’s hearing wasn’t the time for it and that a decision would be made later if the two parties want to seek a camera ban.

The next hearing at which Robinson is expected to appear will be January 16, 20026, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.
The report read:
Robinson is expected to appear in person at that hearing. That will be the first time the 22-year-old appears publicly in a courtroom, as he has listened to his previous court hearings so far via a video feed from the jail.
During Monday’s hearing, the jail turned off Robinson’s camera so he was not seen. He did not speak during the hearing, besides saying, “Yes, I can,” when the judge asked if he could hear the proceedings.
As RedState reported, defense attorneys representing Robinson requested that their client appear “unshackled and in regular street clothes instead of jail attire” for all court appearances so as to avoid looking guilty, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.
Following his arrest, Robinson made an appearance in court virtually, wearing a suicide prevention vest.
