Kevin Bacon Returning to School Where Footloose Was Filmed for 40th Anniversary

Kevin Bacon will be visiting the students of Payson High School this year, which will be for a good cause in addition to the celebration of Footloose‘s 40th anniversary.

Originally released in 1984, Footloose was filmed in 1983 at the school in Payson, Utah. The school has been in operation for the past four decades, but the students will be relocating to a new building at the end of the current academic year. Students have spent months campaigning for Footloose star Kevin Bacon to return to the school on Prom Day in 2024, as this will be the last chance to make it happen. Per Today, Bacon has announced that he will be heading back to the school, impressed with the efforts put in by the students.

Kevin Bacon Celebrates SAG-AFTRA Strike Ending with Footloose Throwback Video

Footloose star Kevin Bacon commemorated the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike with a dancing video encouraging actors to kick off their Sunday shoes.

“I have been so impressed with everything that’s been going on there with this crazy idea to get me to come back,” Bacon said. “I’ve been amazed at the work that all of you have been putting into this, with the musical and the flash mobs and the re-creations. It hasn’t gone unnoticed by me, not to mention the fact that you tied in SixDegrees.org, our foundation, and are trying to figure out ways to give back to your community. It’s really inspirational, so thank you. Thank you. And I’m gonna come. I gotta come.”

Students have brought their campaign to social media by using the hashtag #bacontopayson, hoping to get the actor’s attention. Posts included recreations of scenes from Footloose along with the announcement that the students will host an event on Prom Day to benefit SixDegrees.org, Bacon’s foundation that was established to help local communities in need of various services.

Footloose

Footloose is a 1984 drama/romance/music film starring Kevin Bacon as Ren McCormack, a teen forced to move from big-city Chicago to the small town of Bomont. Bomont is a profoundly religious town that has banned dancing and rock music due to the “evils” it can cause in the city and the youth by Reverand Shaw (John Lithgow). However, when Ren runs into a young woman named Ariel (Lori Singer) and falls for her, he discovers she’s the daughter of the Reverand and is forbidden from seeing her. So Ren decides to break the rules and introduce Ariel and his new friends to the magic of dance at a far away bar. With a fresh outlook and a desire to enjoy their youth (and experience their senior prom), the teens will band together to dismantle the overly restrictive rules and bring music and dance back to the town of Bomont. Footloose has enjoyed a cult following as years have progressed and has also had a remake in 2011. The film was released in 1984 courtesy of Paramount pictures.
