Sophie Cookson has shared the heartbreaking news that her mother is terminally ill and receiving end of life care in hospital.
The Kingsman star, 35, posted an emotional message on Instagram on Wednesday, revealing she has been at her mother Marie’s side in hospital over the last fortnight.
Sharing a photo outside a hospital in Spain, Sophie wrote: ‘I’ve been in hospital for over two weeks as my mum receives end of life care. It can be maddening, scary and jarringly beautiful.
‘If anyone is going through something similar and wants to share their experience with me, please do.
‘Maybe through sharing stories, this inevitable part of life can feel less daunting? I can’t promise to get back to you, but I promise I will read them. No one needs to feel alone.’
The Sussex-born actress did not disclose further details about her mother’s illness.

In recent months, she has been documenting her summer with her family in Europe – posting heartwarming photos on Instagram of Marie enjoying time with Sophie and the five-year-old daughter she shares with husband, actor Stephen Campbell Moore.
One post from August showed Marie gazing out across a hilly landscape, dressed in a striking red blouse.
Sophie wrote alongside the image: ‘Summer is fading and the melancholia of late August is ripe, but there is so much to be grateful for.
‘Make sure the people you love know it and don’t sweat the small stuff. At the end it’s irrelevant.’
Another picture showed Marie smiling at a flower market, holding bunches of eucalyptus and purple blooms. Cookson captioned it simply: ‘Kiss & Fly.’
Sophie, who shot to fame in the 2014 film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, also shared a photo of her partner Stephen, whom she started dating in 2018.
The Trial of Christine Keele star met Stephen, 45, in 2017 on the set of the spy thriller film Red Joan.
The History Boys star was previously married to The Crown’s Claire Foy, 41, with whom he shares a ten-year-old daughter, Ivy Rose.

The heartbreaking update about her mother comes four months after Sophie broke her 16-month silence on social media to announce that she’d undergone a ‘radical reset’.
Sophie explained: ‘Rather than needing to be more of something positive, I needed to be less of something negative.
‘Always less. Never room for growth or taking up space.
‘Last year, after umming and aahing (and frankly feeling rather hopeless) I stopped drinking, did some hard thinking, bit the bullet and did something I was always ashamed I wanted, training to become a Yoga instructor.
‘I was prepared to work hard, sweat and be (incredibly!) sore, but nothing prepared me for the transformative wisdom and unbound kindness I experienced.
‘This is a note of love to those I met and continue to meet through Yoga, which turns out to be the most surprising, generous gift both as a practitioner and generally overwhelmed human!’
