Legacy Media Outlet Reports New Surge in Gun Ownership Among the Left Is a Bad Thing – RedState

Some on the left are arming up, and while that may cause some consternation among some, it may well prove to be very good for the American Second Amendment community. The left, including the LGBTQ+ community, has the same rights under the Second Amendment as the rest of us, and having them exercise those rights may just do them some good. This is from a National Public Radio article:

For decades, the image of gun ownership in America was white, rural and Republican, but that’s been changing, according to gun clubs, trainers, Second Amendment advocates and academic researchers.

They say more liberals, people of color and LGBTQ folks have been buying guns for years and particularly since Trump’s reelection in 2024. This story was based on more than 30 interviews. David Phillips is on the training team of the Liberal Gun Club, which has chapters in more than 30 states and provides a haven for liberals to train and learn about guns. He says club membership has grown from 2,700 in November to 4,500 today. Requests for training, he says, have quintupled.

That’s a good thing. As long as these people are law-abiding citizens, this is their right, and they seem to be going about things the right way: Legal purchase, training, you know, responsible gun ownership.

Of course, some of their stated reasons for this are a little loony.

“The concern is about the supporters of the right-wing who feel that they have been given permission to run roughshod at least, if not commit outright violence against people they don’t like,” Phillips says.

Asked about these concerns, the White House dismissed NPR’s reporting.

“Instead of covering Americans exercising their Second Amendment Right and trying to disingenuously blame President Trump, NPR should highlight the dangerous language from elected Democrats that has driven leftists to commit actual violence against Republicans – including the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said in a statement.

The White House is correct to dismiss this reporting by NPR. Oh, people on the left do face some threats, especially the LGBTQ+ crowd, but it’s not from the American right.

No, the right is, by and large, not a physical threat to these people. But whatever their reasons, they are arming up, and as long as they behave as the rest of us in the Second Amendment community always have – overwhelmingly being law-abiding and responsible – then, fine. The only advice I would give them is this: “If you want a gun, buy one. If you want to keep it, join the pro-Second Amendment organization of your choice, and read their candidate recommendations when you vote.”

Of course, there are threats in this increasingly unsettled nation right now. They aren’t coming from the right, though.

Here’s how the pro-gun side of this debate should respond to this: Welcome these people, as we would welcome any new, law-abiding shooters. It doesn’t matter what their ethnic background is or who they choose to sleep with. The only concern we should have it this: Are they doing this in accordance with existing laws? Will they behave responsibly with their arms, as shooters on the right overwhelmingly do? And will they start to interact with the rest of the pro-Second Amendment community, and in so doing understand that any threat they feel from us is sheer moonshine?

If that’s the case, I would only say to these people, “Welcome to the movement. Welcome to recognizing what the Second Amendment really means.”
