Liam Livingstone continued to put the cricketing world on notice on Sunday by a hitting a mammoth six that many are debating as the biggest of all time.

Livingstone demonstrated his bludgeoning abilities with the bat once more during England’s T20 win against Pakistan at Headingley to level the best-of-three series at 1-1.

With the hosts into bat first, Livingstone was facing Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf in the 16th over and dispatched him in sensational fashion.

Charging in, Haris’ delivery was straight in the slot of Livingstone who smashed him straight on and over the vault-barrelled roof of the ground’s new three-tier Emerald Stand.

The shot was so emphatic that not only did it clear the stand but the ball actually landed on to the adjacent pitch behind – which is the home of rugby league outfit Leeds Rhinos.

The breathtaking hit left the Headingley crowd in awe and the commentators during the match.

‘Oh my goodness,’ said Sky Sports’ Ian Ward. ‘Where has that ended up? That’s massive. That is enormous.’

‘Where did it go? I didn’t see it!’ replied Kumar Sangakkara.

Ward added: ‘Sanga, it’s gone over the stand. That’s on the rugby pitch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a six bigger than that.’

Livingstone’s thunderous shot wowed those on social media too.

England’s official account tweeted: ‘Biggest six ever?! @LeedsRhinos, can we have our ball back?’

The Rhinos replied back rather tongue-in-cheek: ‘Good job for @liaml4893 that back garden cricket rules are not in play, as everyone knows if you hit it over the neighbours fence it’s six and OUT! We’ll leave the side gate open, he can pop round and get it.’

Stuart Broad, also commentating for Sky Sports, said: ‘I have watched it 20 times on Twitter – it is just mad! What golf club would you need to get it over that stand? I have not seen a bigger six – the height, the elevation, the distance.’

Avid cricket fan Piers Morgan simply wrote: ‘OMG’ alongside three fire emojis about the huge shot, while radio DJ and cricket podcaster Greg James wrote: ‘I can’t stop watching this from @liaml4893. ENORMOUS’.

The massive shot was part of another impressive innings from Livingstone who hit 38 off 23 deliveries as England won by 45 runs to level the series with Pakistan.

This knock followed the 27-year-old’s 42-ball century against the tourists on Friday – the fastest T20 ton by an Englishman.

Speaking after that knock, acting England head coach Paul Collingwood hinted that he could have cemented his spot in their T20 World Cup squad in the autumn.

Collingwood said: ‘It’s very hard not to pick a guy if he’s played like that.

‘It’s not just his power-hitting, it’s also what he gives with the ball. He can bowl leg-spin and off-spin depending on whether he’s bowling against right or left-handed batsmen, and he’s an exceptional fielder.

‘Under the serious pressure of needing 12 an over from the start, he’s shown he can really take it to the opposition.

‘It’s exciting to think how powerful that batting unit could be with someone like him in it. He’s adding something special.’
