Lil Nas X Pleads “Not Guilty” To Charges

According to the Associated Press, the LAPD says Lil Nas X charged at them when they confronted him for walking naked down a Los Angeles street. The musician, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, pleaded not guilty in a court appearance. He took the route for three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer.

While initial reports claimed he might face a misdemeanor, the actual charges are far more serious. If convicted, the counts could collectively bring a sentence of more than 10 years in prison for the singer-rapper.

After three days in jail, officials released Lil Nas X on $75,000 bail. However, that call is conditional. He must attend drug treatment to comply with the release conditions.

In the latest update, the ‘Industry Baby’ artist broke his silence on his legal troubles one day after appearing in court. Dressed in a bright sweater, he filmed a selfie video while saying, “Your girl is going to be okay.” He kept repeating that everything will be okay, but added: “That was terrifying…that was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is gon be alright.” He did not offer any details about the nude stroll in Los Angeles or his interaction with the police or hospital visit.

Nas’ Lawyer Slams His Charges To Judge

On Monday, Attorney Christy O’Connor told a judge that Lil Nas X has led a “remarkable” life, including winning two Grammy awards.

“Assuming the allegations here are true, this is an absolute aberration in this person’s life,” O’Connor said in court, according to NBC. “Nothing like this has ever happened to him.”

TMZ first reported the charges.  Lil Nas X is set to return to court on Sept. 15 for his next pre-trial hearing.

More Details About The Singer’s Arrest

The LAPD previously said officers found the 26-year-old walking naked on Ventura Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m. Friday. For those who don’t know, that’s a major thoroughfare in the Studio City neighborhood. Officers claim he charged at them when confronted. As a result, the cops on the scene arrested him.

According to AP, Nas’ criminal complaint, which prosecutors filed in court Monday, includes few details. But the document accuses Nas of “unlawfully [using] force and violence and inflict an injury” on a person he “reasonably should have known” was a peace officer “engaged in the performance of a duty.”

After his arrest, police suspected a possible overdose. In response, they took him to a hospital where he spent several hours. Afterward, officials transported him to jail, where he spent the weekend.
