Loved one's of Amy Anderson, who died after fatally shooting two police officers in a Mississippi gun battle in front of her daughter, have expressed their disbelief of the incident

Family and friends of a mother who died after shooting dead two Mississippi police officers in front of her eight-year-old daughter have expressed their disbelief.

Amy Anderson, 43, died from a fatal chest wound after killing Sergeant Steven Robin, 34, and Officer Branden Estorffe, 23 of the Bay St. Louis Police.

The officers were called to conduct a wellness check on Anderson at a Motel 6 in Bay St. Louis around 4.30am on Tuesday. Anderson spent 30 minutes speaking with them before shooting both from inside her SUV. Her daughter, 8, was in the car with her at the time.

Anderson’s relative, Breanne Anderson Simmons, made an emotional post on Facebook thanking her friends and family for the support during this difficult time.

‘I wanted to post and say that we are deeply saddened and so appreciative of your kind words to us,’ she wrote. ‘Please continue to keep our family in your thoughts & prayers.’

On the post a friend of Simmons wrote:  ‘Girl. I’m so saddened to hear this news about Amy.

‘That is not the Amy that we all knew so well. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Don’t let the social media bullies get to y’all.’

Seargeant Robin and Officer Estorffe saw Anderson on Wednesday morning with her eight-year-old daughter, and after speaking with her for 40 minutes, decided to call child-protection services.

Anderson opened fire on the officers, hitting them both. Sergeant Robin died on the scene while Officer Estorffe died in Memorial Hospital in Gulfport.

Police continue to work to determine whether Anderson’s death was self-inflicted or related to the crossfire.

Anderson had three children, according to her Facebook and lived in Ocean Springs.

She had worked as a veterinarian at MedVet Mobile and Lakeview Animal Hospital.

A former colleague of Anderson’s told the DailyMail.com that she had only been employed by the Lakeview animal hospital for about 33 days prior to the shooting, though she has worked for many years as a local vet.

They described Anderson as a ‘very, very compassionate person’ who ‘cried over a bearded lizard’ that was being treated at the practice.

The source added it is ‘hard to assess somebody’ who you’ve only known for a few weeks, but Anderson’s actions are ‘definitely not something they would’ve expected or seen coming.’

The girlfriend of one of the cops gunned down in Mississippi posted a heartbreaking tribute to the fallen officer.

Madison Bartlett called Brendan Estorffe her ‘best friend and the ‘most selfless man I know’ alongside a series of stunning pictures of them.

Barlett, who alluded in previous posts to a prior partner – the father of her child – being ‘narcissistic’ and ‘abusive,’ credited Estorffe with teaching her ‘what it’s like to be loved.’

She added that Estorffe loved her daughter Baylor ‘as if she were your own. You were patient, kind and living.

‘The most selfless person I know. I don’t want this life without you.’ She continued: ‘I love you forever Branden Estorffe,’ wrote the devastated young woman.

In an article from years ago, the Vicksburg Post documented Anderson’s ascent into the veterinary profession, when there were still relatively few female vets in the area.

She had followed her father, Dr. Bob Anderson’s, footsteps. Prior to the time that Amy began her tenure working at the Vicksburg Medical Clinic, the institution had only ever had one female veterinarian.

‘I wanted to be a veterinarian since I was old enough to know what it was,’ she said.

It also appears to be the case that Anderson jointly filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2017 with a man named Royce Jarrell Mize, with whom she shared a last name at the time.

A woman can be heard saying ‘two officers down’ in the early morning police dispatch call to the motel parking lot crime scene.

As the tragic morning progressed, neighbors gathered to show support for the local police force.

PJ’s coffee, a local café where officers are known to gather, provided hot coffee for investigating officers and community members hung a commemorative wreath honoring the fallen policemen.

A local woman told WLOX that she ‘believes there’s positivity in numbers.’

‘We’re a strong community and I believe we have a lot of support and love from other communities as well…the whole Gulf Coast is one,’ said Donna Brignac, the manager of PJ’s coffee.

‘I am heartbroken by this terrible loss of two brave law enforcement officers,’ Gov. Tate Reeves posted on Twitter. ‘I am praying for their family, friends, their fellow officers, and the entire Bay St. Louis community.’

Bay St. Louis Police Chief Toby Schwartz vowed a thorough probe would be conducted to investigate the case.

Investigators on Wednesday blocked a large part of the motel parking lot with crime scene tape.

An officer was seen taking photos of the driver’s seat of the SUV just a step away from bloodstains on the pavement and discarded emergency medical equipment.

Other officers were looking inside a nearby police car parked in the Bay St. Louis neighborhood, a city of 10,000 people about 25 miles west of Biloxi.

A joint funeral is being held for Robin and Estorffe on Dec 21 at the Bay St. Louis Community Center.
