Michigan Ballot Proposal Pushed by Democrats Would Allow Murderers and Rapists to Vote From Behind Bars

Activist leaders are speaking out against a Michigan ballot proposal that would allow felons to vote from behind bars.

Proposal 2, led by a far-left organization calling themselves “Promote the Vote,” would amend the Michigan state constitution in order to make mandatory voter ID illegal, allow for private interests to buy crucial election infrastructure, eviscerate signature verification standards, and permit limitless ballot harvesting with no accountability. But perhaps the most offensive provision in the proposal is allowing convicted murderers, rapists and other felons to vote from behind bars.

“Everyone I talk to is stunned to find out the truth that Proposal 2 could make it easier for criminals to vote,” Casey Armitage, chairwoman of the 9th Congressional District Republican Committee, told the Detroit News Wire.

“We do not want to see that happen in our state. Michiganders believe in following the law, not rewriting it so that criminals can determine who represents us at the state, local and federal levels.”

“Proposal 2 is an attack on Michigan values. We do not want to make it easier for criminals to vote. Michiganders want election integrity and to restore trust in our elections, Proposal 2 does not do that,” said Patrice Johnson, Chair of Pure Integrity for Michigan Elections (PIME).

“We oppose this proposal because it makes it easier for criminals to vote, and harder for Michiganders to trust our elections,” Michigan county chair for Moms for Liberty Katie MacFarland said.

The language in Proposal 2 that would allow felons to vote from behind bars reads as follows:

(a) THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO VOTE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO the right, once registered, to vote a secret ballot in all elections. NO PERSON SHALL: (1) ENACT OR USE ANY LAW, RULE, REGULATION, QUALIFICATION, PREREQUISITE, STANDARD, PRACTICE, OR PROCEDURE; (2) ENGAGE IN ANY HARASSING, THREATENING, OR INTIMIDATING CONDUCT; OR (3) USE ANY MEANS WHATSOEVER, ANY OF WHICH HAS THE INTENT OR EFFECT OF DENYING, ABRIDGING, INTERFERING WITH, OR UNREASONABLY BURDENING THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO VOTE.”

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Brian Zahra believes that Proposal 2’s language was written to undermine the power of the legislature and would put confusing and contradictory language into the Michigan state constitution.

“Article 2, Section 1 expressly acknowledges that who is qualified to be an elector in Michigan can be limited by other provisions of the Constitution, and Article 2, Section 2 expressly grants the Legislature permissive authority to enact statutes imposing such limitations as to mentally incompetent or incarcerated individuals,” Zahra said.

Democrats are putting measures into place to ensure that they will be able to cheat in elections without the victims of fraud having any recourse after the fact. If Proposal 2 is enacted, Michigan will likely become the California of the East. For more information on defeating Prop 2, visit ProtectMiVoterID.com.
