Mike Collins Levels Jon Ossoff As Debate Over CBP MN Incident Makes Way to GA Senate Race – RedState

We’ve seen a lot of notable developments in the aftermath of the Border Patrol shooting incident that took place Saturday in Minnesota, and which left one protester dead.

Among the most notable, as RedState previously reported, has been the implication of the Walz administration, other elected Democrat officials, and even some judges in the anti-ICE Signal chat scandal. Further, President Trump on Monday announced that Gov. Tim Walz (D) had called him to “request to work together with respect to Minnesota.”

Characterizing it as a “very good call” and noting the two would be speaking again “in the near future,” Trump went on to write on Truth Social that he “told Governor Walz that I would have [border czar] Tom Homan call him, and that what we are looking for are any and all Criminals that they have in their possession.”

The Border Patrol shooting incident has also prompted a number of Democrat Senators to signal that they will not vote in favor of DHS funding, which could pave the way for another government shutdown.

“Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included,” Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced Saturday.

Where does Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) stand on all this? According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ossoff and his colleague, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), want some concessions:

Ossoff and U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock have joined other Senate Democrats who said they would block a bipartisan spending package that includes $10 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement unless civil liberties protections are added. The money must be approved by Friday to avert a partial government shutdown.

Perhaps even more interestingly, Ossoff is demanding that the GOP candidates in the Georgia Senate race speak out and demand an “independent investigation” into what happened in Minneapolis:

Republican Rep. Mike Collins (GA-10), who is leading in the polling so far ahead of the May 19 primary, leveled Ossoff in response, noting that when it came to what was happening in his own backyard, he was strangely silent for some reason:

Here’s my statement, Jon: we need to fully fund DHS so ICE can continue deporting violent criminal illegal immigrants from our streets. I stand with President Trump and law enforcement.

When will you say one, even ONE, word about the illegal aliens arrested just this month for raping, kidnapping, and molesting your constituents?

It should also be noted that Ossoff initially opposed the Laken Riley Act, named for the 22-year-old Augusta University nursing student who was brutalized and murdered by an illegal immigrant in February 2024. Ossoff flip-flopped on the bill in January 2025, which the NRSC asserted was clearly “a desperate attempt to save his job.”

On a related note, Rep. Buddy Carter (GA-01), who is also running for Senate, posted this statement on X just before this article went to publication:

This Senate race is going to be one to watch heading into the fall elections, as both the RNC and Trump are hungry to get this one back into the GOP fold. Regardless of who the eventual Republican nominee is, however, Ossoff continuing to ignore his home state when it comes to catching and deporting criminal illegal immigrants – and preventing them from being here in the first place – is unlikely to sit well with a majority of Georgia voters.

Trump has yet to make an endorsement in this race.
