It’s hard to believe the movie Dodgeball is almost 20 years old. I mentioned the “5 D’s of Dodge Ball”: Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge not long ago in reference to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s penchant for avoiding most questions directed her way.
But she’s got nothing on our esteemed AG.
Merrick Garland testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, ostensibly to address the politicization and weaponization of the Justice Department on his watch. Or…tenure. Watch may be too generous, given that Garland spent the bulk of the hearing insisting he had no idea about this, that, or the other seemingly significant topic. Things about which one would expect the chief law enforcement officer of the country to at least have an inkling.
But no, not Merrick. Nosiree, Bob.
Not David Weiss’s authority.
Not paid FBI informants at J6.
Not who’s buying Hunter’s artwork.
Won’t discuss what he’s discussed with whom.
Doesn’t really think it’s Congress’s business what’s going on over at Justice.
In fact, this sharpest of sharp legal minds, this man of utmost integrity who came this close to securing a seat on the Supreme Court (but surely doesn’t harbor any grudges about it), teaches us that, while there may be 5 D’s of Dodgeball, there’s a sixth that goes along with testifying before Congress: Dissemble.
