MHA My Hero Ultra Rumble

More information about the My Hero Academia battle royale has been revealed.

Bandai Namco unveiled a new trailer for the latest MHA game, which now carries the title My Hero Ultra Rumble, during the video game publisher’s panel at this year’s Anime Expo. Ultra Rumble is a team-based multiplayer game that will let players take control of the shonen anime’s most popular heroes, including central protagonist Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and All Might. A number of playable villains were also shown in the new trailer as well, including Tomura Shigaraki, the shapeshifting Himiko Toga, and the firey Dabi.

Each match will feature 24 total players, who will be split up into squads of three players each. Each character will be specialized in a certain fighting style; according to the panel, Deku will be best suited to close-quarters melee combat, while his classmate Todoroki will be able to use his fire and ice powers to throw out area-of-effect style attacks. In addition to fighting each other directly with their Quirks, players will also be tasked with either helping or tormenting a number of NPC civilian characters scattered around the battleground.

A closed beta test will give players the chance to try out the new battle royale before it officially launches. Fans who attended Bandai Namco’s Anime Expo panel were given a code that guarantees them a spot in the beta test, while everyone else will have to apply for a spot on the publisher’s website. My Hero Ultra Rumble is in development for the Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PCs via Steam, though the beta test appears to be limited to the PS4 only. A launch date was not announced for the game, but the panel did confirm that the new title will be free-to-play once it launches, with players able to buy new costumes for their superpowered characters.

Fans will also be treated to an all-out battle royale between heroes and villains in the next season of the MHA anime, which is scheduled to premiere this fall and will adapt the manga’s Paranormal Liberation War arc. The new season will be preceeded by the release of two new OVA (original video animation) specials, which will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll on Aug. 1. The first special sees the series’ proheroes and UA High Students entering into a Quirk-powered baseball league, while the second OVA has Endeavour and his interns trying to track down a mischevious vandal.

The first five seasons of My Hero Academia are available for streaming on Crunchyroll, while the Kohei Horikoshi’s original manga, which is currently in the middle of the story’s final arc, is published in English by VIZ Media.
