Nancy Guthrie final ransom deadline just hours away as desperate hunt for Savannah's kidnapped mother continues: Live updates

The clock is ticking on the looming ransom deadline for Nancy Guthrie as the urgent search for the Today show host’s mother continues.

Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother was abducted from her $1million Tucson, Arizona, home in the early hours of February 1, with officials confirming they have not identified any suspects in the ongoing case.

Officials were seen scouring manholes beside the house on Sunday morning, and police issued a statement around midday saying they still had no idea who kidnapped the elderly woman.

This comes after KGUN 9 reported that a ransom note threatens Nancy’s life if her loved ones do not hand over $6 million in Bitcoin by Monday at 5pm local time.

Savannah agreed to pay the ransom in exchange for her mother’s safe return in a heart-wrenching video message shared Saturday night.

‘We received your message, and we understand,’ Savannah said. ‘We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her.

‘This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.’

‘It was communicated to me, pray. So we’re gonna keep praying through this horrific ordeal,’ he said.

‘We pray for Nancy’s rescue and her release. Bring her home safely. Lord God bless and guide the authorities in their search for Nancy. Give them wisdom along every step of the path to her.’

Tittle added, ‘Lord, we ask that you would soften the hearts of those who are responsible, that they might come forward and do what is humane. And what is right.’

Savannah Guthrie’s latest video was response to second note, sources say

Three officials briefed on the matter told NBC News that Savannah Guthrie’s plea to her mother’s captors, posted on Saturday, was a response to a second note sent about their mother on Friday.

That note was sent to the local news station, KOLD, and authorities are still working to determine whether the second note originated from the same source as the first ransom note several news outlets received.

The NBC sources said the Guthrie family is aware of the police efforts, and on Saturday night, detectives were seen at Annie Guthrie’s home as part of a follow-up search in the normal course of the case, a spokesperson confirmed.

The search was consented to, two of the three officials briefed on the search said.

‘Media & the public are reminded to follow all traffic & private property laws. No trespassing is allowed on the Guthrie property.  Violations are subject to enforcement.’

Today show hosts ask for ‘grace’ while covering Nancy Guthrie disappearance

Savannah Guthrie’s Today show colleagues asked for grace as they continue to cover her mother’s disappearance on Monday.

‘Hoda [Kotb] is joining us this morning as our Today family continues to navigate uncharted territory, balancing the updates on the search for Savannah’s mom with all the other stories of the day, like we normally do,’ Craig Melvin said.

‘But we know things are far from normal right now. So folks, we are asking for your grace as we continue to do this.’

Kotb added, ‘I mean, paramount through all of this, Savannah and her family are our top priority. In addition to that, there is also a job to do.’

‘We’re going to do our best. It’s certainly not easy to do our jobs, and we’re doing that obviously for [Savannah] and for you, too, the viewers,’ Carson Daly said.

Al Roker chimed in, ‘In a sense, we are able to do this because we know that is exactly what Savannah would want us to do.’

"Hoda [Kotb] is joining us this morning as our Today family continues to navigate uncharted territory, balancing the updates on the search for Savannah's mom with all the other stories of the day, like we normally do," cohost Craig Melvin said during the Monday, February 9, broadcast. "But we know things are far from normal right now. So folks, we are asking for your grace as we continue to do this."

FBI director Kash Patel heading to Tucson

FBI Director Kash Patel will arrive in Tucson on Monday as the hunt for Nancy Guthrie continues, after President Trump suggested answers may be imminent.

Patel will travel to the Arizona city this afternoon for what his staff say is a ‘pre-planned visit’ not linked to 84-year-old Guthrie’s abduction last weekend.

But a spokesperson for Patel conceded that ‘plans may change,’ suggesting he could well focus on Today anchor Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother if there is a break in the case.

Experts fear Savannah Guthrie’s latest video shows ‘resignation’

Hostage negotiation experts have said that they detected ‘resignation’ in Savannah Guthrie’s latest plea video with her mother’s captors.

Former CIA official Tracy Walder told the New York Post the video was ‘carefully constructed,’ and ‘the delivery was more muted and somber than the family’s first video.’

Retired FBI agent Lance Leising told The New York Times that the message’s wording was deliberately vague and could suggest that investigators are not convinced the ransom note is legitimate.

‘The possibility that it’s fraudulent, and these people don’t have Nancy, is still high,’ Leising said.

Abductors ‘confident’ they’ll evade law enforcement

Former FBI agent, Lance Leising, believes Nancy’s alleged abductors are ‘confident’ they won’t be caught by sending the second ransom note.

‘It’s interesting that they are committed to sending a second one if it’s the same person,’ he told Fox News.

‘Because they are confident they are not going to be found, they are confident they are using anonymizers and changing their IP address and running it through a bunch of different countries, potentially, to avoid being tracked.’

However, he noted neither note gives police anything to confirm the notes are coming from the alleged criminals.

While experts suggest the mother of Savannah Guthrie was targeted due to suspicious ransom notes, officials say a motive has not been confirmed.

Neighborhood in ‘disbelief’

Catalina Foothills Association has resumed neighborhood searches near Nancy’s home as residents are in utter ‘disbelief’ this happened.

Residents are encouraged by the association to comply with law enforcement and to share ‘camera images and allow searches of your properties.’

‘I know we all stand together in our collective disbelief and sadness and greatly appreciate your willingness to speak with law enforcement,’ the association said in a letter to residents.

Fears grow that Nancy Guthrie could be in Mexico

Nancy Guthrie’s home in Catalina Foothills in Arizona is only a mere 70 miles from the US-Mexico border.

Some fear her kidnappers may be holding her hostage in the North American country.

Former Phoenix homicide investigator Troy Hillman said it will be hard to pinpoint exactly where Nancy is.

‘It’s hard to say,’ he told Fox. ‘She could possibly be in Mexico or she could possible be in a neighboring state… But you just don’t know.’

Sheriff in charge of Nancy Guthrie investigation is caught watching BASKETBALL game in latest blunder while devastated Savannah is forced to make desperate video plea

He’s choked back tears publicly while saying ‘we’re going to find her’ as he leads the massive operation to bring abducted Nancy Guthrie home alive.

But while his detectives continued to grind through the weekend, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos took time off to watch a college basketball game – as revealed in an exclusive Daily Mail photo.

The sheriff was spotted at the basketball game on Saturday evening, at the same time that Savannah Guthrie shared a heartbreaking video with her siblings pleading for their mother’s return.

The Today Show host addressed her mother’s alleged abductors and said her family had ‘received your message’, and said she ‘will pay’ their ransom demands.

Nanos, whose face has been plastered across national media for the past six days, was seen in a khaki hoody top amid spectators watching number one ranked Arizona Wildcats defeat Oklahoma State 47-84 at the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson.

But the decision to take time out for the game has not gone down well with deputies swamped with chasing leads as the clock ticks unmercifully for the 84-year-old mother of NBC Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie.
