Navjot Singh Sidhu is sentenced to one year in prison for road rage in1988

Who is Navjot Singh Sidhu? And what is the trend?

The Supreme Court sentenced former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu to one year in prison on Thursday related to an old case. The Supreme Court convicted Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu in connection with a road rage case, a significant blow for the cricketer.

Navjot Sidhu must appear in court to spend a year of “rigorous incarceration.” “Will succumb to the majesty of the law…,” said the former Punjab Congress head, who took part in a rally this morning. Nevertheless, a panel of Justices A M Khanwilkar and S K Kaul dismissed Sidhu’s request to charge him with involuntary manslaughter, not amounting to murder under Section 304A of the IPC.

He has the ability to appeal the judgment. The Chief Justice was considering a plea from the victim’s relatives died in 1988 following a confrontation with Mr Sidhu and his partner.
The event and its legal ramifications have followed Mr Sidhu for over three decades, and he resigned as Punjab Congress head following his party’s defeat in assembly polls. The families of the victims had requested more serious criminal charges against Mr Sidhu, as well as a reconsideration of a Supreme Court judgment acquitting him in 2018.
Mr Sidhu started a fight with Gurnam Singh, a Patiala resident, more than a parking location on December 27, 1988. Mr Sidhu and his friend, Rupinder Singh Sandhu, are accused of forcing Gurnam Singh and hitting him. He died afterward.

A Patiala sessions court discharged Mr Sidhu and his colleague in 1999, citing an absence of evidence and granting the due credit.
On appeal, the Punjab and Haryana High Court convicted Mr Sidhu of culpable murder and sentenced him to three years in prison in 2006.

Mr Sidhu had filed an appeal against the family’s petition for review. The Supreme Court issued its decision on the appeal of the Congress leader.
