NBA Trades, Deshaun Watson Suspension, and More – RedState

There was a lot of buzz around the NBA Tuesday; however, the biggest sports news came from the NFL, as Deshaun Watson could face indefinite suspension.

NBA Roundup:

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Russell Westbrook opted into his $47.1 million option. Russell Westbrook struggled last season, but he is poised for a bounce-back season. The Lakers’ new head coach Darvin Ham will utilize Westbrook in several different ways, which could help Westbrook find the proper role on the team. According to Shams Charania, the Lakers coaching staff and front office want the Westbrook experiment to work in Los Angeles.

The Detroit Pistons traded two future second-round picks and cash incentives to the New York Knicks for center Nerlens Noel, guard Alec Burks, a 2023 second-round pick, a 2024 second-round pick, and six million dollars. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pistons plan to use Noel and Burks, while the Knicks freed up cap space to sign Jalen Brunson.

As the Dallas Mavericks are prepared to lose Jalen Brunson in free agency to the New York Knicks, they have an interest in Gary Payton II. Warriors reporter Anthony Slater states that the Mavs are “considered among the most serious suitors” for Golden State Warriors guard Payton II. He would not replace Brunson offensively; however, his defensive prowess could be a boost for Mavs star Luka Doncic.

Following the signing of John Wall, the Clippers signed center Ivica Zubac to a three-year, $33 million extension. The Clippers will need to remain healthy next season to have a chance in the playoffs, and Ivica Zubac will be an essential part of that playoff run. Last season, Zubac averaged 10.3 points on 62.6 percent shooting, 8.5 rebounds, and one block per game.

The New York Knicks are expected to offer free-agent guard Jalen Brunson a four-year, $110 million deal once free agency begins June 30th. This has been widely expected, as the Knicks have been searching for a starting point guard. Brunson wants to dictate the offense more often, and with Luka Doncic running the show in Dallas, Brunson’s game was limited.

NFL Roundup:

According to Adam Schefter, the Washington Commanders and wide receiver Terry McLaurin agreed to a three-year, $71 million deal. Last season, for the first time, McLaurin did not miss a game. In 17 games last season, he totaled 77 receptions on 130 targets for 1,053 yards and five touchdowns. McLaurin signed the extension as he looks to build up chemistry with quarterback Carson Wentz. Wentz will be the most talented quarterback that McLaurin has had.

Meanwhile, the NFL wants to indefinitely suspend Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson as his legal team stated in court that there was no premise for his punishment. Watson agreed to settle 20 of 24 civil lawsuits that massage therapists filed for sexual misconduct. The hearing will continue on Wednesday.
