If you’re looking for a gripping documentary to binge on Netflix, this ‘heartbreaking’ story of a real-life US veteran might be exactly the ticket.
First released in 2024, In Waves and War has been getting rave reviews on the streaming platform since it was added earlier this week.
It is so good in fact that one viewer described it as ‘the most amazing documentary they’ve seen in years.’
The documentary’s synopsis reads: ‘Highly decorated Navy SEAL Marcus Capone returns from Afghanistan and attempts to readjust to civilian life.
‘But years of unprecedented warfare have left Marcus with treatment-defiant PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and severe depression beyond what current government treatment options can effectively address.

Fans have now been taking to social media to praise the documentary for its portrayal of PTSD and the unconventional method of treating the illness.

The unconventional PTSD explored in the documentary is psychedelic therapy, which is illustrated through animated segments to convey how it works.
Following its success with the documentary’s protagonist, Marcus, the film follows his attempts to introduce the treatment to other PTSD-afflicted veterans.
Fans were equally complimentary about the documentary on the film social media platform, Letterboxd.
