A 62-year-old woman has been charged with multiple offenses, including four counts of assault by auto, after driving through a crowd of anti-ICE protesters in Fairview, New Jersey on Saturday.
The incident took place as dozens of protesters marched through an intersection outside the Noches De Colombia restaurant. It was captured on video and posted to social media.
The video shows the woman, identified by police as Linda Roglen, slowly approaching the intersection in front of the restaurant when a stream of protesters crosses through the crosswalk.
One man approaches her vehicle and appears to motion for her to stop. He seemingly says or does something, then turns back to the line of protesters. But Roglen lurches forward and clips his foot in the process, knocking him to the ground.
It is at this stage that several protesters, one wearing a Puerto Rican flag as a cape, begin surrounding her vehicle. Another shouts at her through a bullhorn.
The woman continues to inch forward, making the protesters irate. She rolls up her window, and more than one individual begins to bang on the glass. Another slams their protest sign on the hood of her car.
Roglen eventually plows her way through the obstruction, injuring three people in the process.

It’s unclear just how large the protest was and why Roglen seemed impatient enough not to want to wait for the anti-ICE group to cross the street. The protest parade was moving, not static, and presumably could have quickly crossed without incident and only a minor inconvenience.
But the first man never should have approached her vehicle. And reports now suggest he did something to instigate the entire altercation.
Was she right with her initial actions? We’ll have to hear her version of events. Multiple witnesses told the local ABC affiliate that the man spat in Roglen’s face.
Why? Because she reportedly said, “I love ICE.”

Once she knocked him down – whether accidental or not – the swarming protesters caused an increasingly dangerous situation. Did the protesters, including the spitter, escalate to FAFO by responding the way they did? They sure did, and three of them who suffered minor injuries apparently found out.
That said, Roglen is also finding out. She was later arrested and faces numerous criminal charges, including, according to News 12 in New Jersey:
- Four counts of assault by auto resulting in bodily injury.
- Careless driving.
- Reckless driving.
- Failure to stop for a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
- Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injuries.
- And failure to report a motor vehicle crash.
Yikes, that’s a lot. Will the man who allegedly spat on her face charges? Will those protesters who banged on her vehicle, potentially damaging it, face charges?
Several states across the country have introduced bills and adopted legislation to reduce or eliminate driver liability for hitting protesters. New Jersey is not currently one of them.
