Noel Gallagher looked down in the dumps as he arrived in Manchester for Oasis's homecoming gig at Heaton Park, but Liam was nowhere to be seen

Noel Gallagher looked down in the dumps as he arrived in Manchester for Oasis’s homecoming gig at Heaton Park, but Liam was nowhere to be seen.

The iconic brothers are preparing to play five dates at the 80,000 capacity venue, with the first on Friday evening.

But Noel struggled to muster up a smile as he was spotted in his home city on Thursday afternoon after rocking two nights at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium last weekend.

The 58-year-old sported a pair of jeans, a white T-shirt and a navy jacket as he strolled through the streets of Manchester while covering his eyes in a pair of sunglasses.

Despite his frosty exterior, Noel – who was pictured biting on an apple – did make time for supporters by signing vinyl tapes and CDs after he stepped out of a blacked out motor.

Liam, 52, was however nowhere to be seen, with the brothers seemingly making the journey north from the Welsh capital separately this week.

After a 16-year feud following a bitter fallout backstage in Paris in 2009, the Gallaghers at last reunited last Friday at the Principality Stadium.

Walking on-stage shortly after 8pm hand-in-hand, Noel and Liam were met by the roar of 75,000 fans who had been waiting years to see them together once again.

But during the gig the brothers hardly spoke, and afterwards supporters spotted Liam making a swift getaway in a car parked to the side of the stage while Noel waved to fans.

And the Mail on Sunday later revealed that despite their united display during the show earlier in the night, the reality behind the scenes was rather different.

Not only were the Gallaghers staying at different hotels – Noel at the four-star Parkgate Hotel in the city centre and Liam 20 minutes away at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport – but there was a distinctly ‘frosty’ atmosphere backstage.

Friends fear relations between the brothers may deteriorate to breaking point, resulting in them ending the tour halfway through their worldwide 41-gig trip.

A source told The MoS: ‘They can’t stand each other because they still haven’t forgiven each other. It’s all very frosty and awkward. We all doubt they will make it to Australia at this rate.’

After they finish their UK tour in September, Oasis play five nights in Melbourne and Sydney from the end of October, with five more gigs in South America scheduled. Live ’25 is expected to earn them £600million, with ticket prices ranging from £200 to £2,000.

After arriving on-stage last Friday arm-in-arm with his sibling, Liam addressed the crowd: ‘Manchester vibes in the arena, Oasis vibes in the arena!’

The band then played their first song, Hello, with the front man belting out the apt lyrics: ‘It’s good to be back!’

Continuing with some of their biggest hits, Oasis then went into Acquiesce before transitioning into the fan-favourite 1995 tune Morning Glory.

‘Yes beautiful people! It’s been too long,’ Liam announced.

He then ordered the crowd to ‘turn around and bounce’ ahead of Cigarettes and Alcohol.

Later, Noel appeared emotional as he performed Half The World Away and even stopped singing for a few bars at one point.

There was also a heart-warming moment as the band paid to tribute to Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car accident earlier this week.

After performing Some Might Say, Bring It On Down and Fade Away, Liam went off for a rest, while Noel performed his acoustic version of Talk Tonight.

Liam later said: ‘Are you having a good time?’ before addressing the ticket chaos: ‘Was it worth the £40,000 you paid for the ticket.’

Throughout their various sets, poignant pictures of the family’s home in Manchester flashed up on the screen along with baby pictures of both brothers.

The brothers ended the show with Rock n Roll Star, but after fan cheers for an encore, the band came strolling back out to play more hits.

The crowds went wild as they belted out Wonderwall and the brothers became very emotional as they began to close down the show.

‘Thanks for putting up with us over the years. We’re hard work. We get it,’ Liam gushed.

They then rounded off their first gig in 16 years with legendary track Champagne Supernova.
