Daniel Farke has received the backing of Norwich chiefs despite overseeing their winless and ‘unacceptable’ start to the season.

Norwich are propping up the Premier League having lost seven of their nine league games so far and scored just twice.

Farke has now failed to win any of his last 19 top-flight games, including the 10 successive defeats they suffered in their previous Premier League campaign when they were relegated in 2020.

Scrutiny of the Norwich boss, who signed a new four-year contract in June, has increased further following Saturday’s 7-0 defeat at Chelsea but sporting director Stuart Webber said: ‘To be questioning, Daniel, at this point, I think would be incredibly unfair.

‘If you asked Daniel are we happy at the minute? Of course not none of us are. It’s unacceptable. Unacceptable what happened on Saturday, and unacceptable in terms of our points return, none of us want that.

‘But that doesn’t come down to one man. We’ve got 300 staff here, every single one of them has a massive responsibility to step up.

‘This is a time now where this isn’t about focusing on one man. This is about focusing on the whole.

‘It’s about supporting, being together and trying to get through this not finger pointing or putting an amount of games on people, or you must get this amount of points on the next few games.

‘We can’t be setting targets of someone’s got a game left or two games left, 10 games left, a season left, two seasons left.

‘We’ve fully committed to Daniel, that’s why we give him a four-year contract in the summer. The work he’s done at this club has been beyond incredible.’

Meanwhile, Webber is set to end doubts about his future by signing a new rolling contract after agreeing to stay on at the Carrow Road club.
