Marvel vet Chris Hemsworth teased Warlord Dementus’ interesting dynamic with Anya Taylor-Joy’s titular character in George Miller’s upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
During a recent interview with Empire, Hemsworth shared new details about his villainous character. He explained that Dementus is not your average “sadistic” villain, teasing that he’s a calculated individual who has real motives behind the horrible things he’s done. “Through the whole film we kept coming back to, ‘This is evil, but what is the intention behind it?’ It’s not just sadistic insanity,” he said. “There is a real purpose, the wheels are turning, he’s plotting and planning and ten steps ahead of everyone else.”

A new look at Anya Taylor-Joy in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has been revealed.
Hemsworth also opened up about the interesting dynamic between Dementus and Furiosa, revealing that the villain strangely views himself as a father figure to his enemy. “I think that’s how he sees himself,” he continued. “I think there’s a paternal quality and nature to the relationship in his eyes. [Furiosa] would, I’m sure, argue to her death the complete opposite.”
In addition, the Thor: Ragnarok star also provided a brief description of some of the crazy stunt sequences that fans should anticipate in the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel. “The chariot bike is the wildest piece of machinery I’ve ever driven, and I loved every second of it,” Hemsworth shared. “I mean, hanging off a crane at one point and being loaded onto a monster truck, and then on the monster truck someone unclips me off a harness and the truck spins away into a burnout. How this world comes from one of the kindest individuals, I’ll never know…”

Furiosa Report Ties Prequel to Mad Max Game’s Continuity
A new claim about Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga suggests the Imperator Furiosa prequel will address events from 2015’s Mad Max open-world game adaptation.
What to Expect From Furiosa
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is directed and co-written by Miller. The cast also includes Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, Daniel Webber and more. Further details about their characters remained under wraps. To embody the young version of Charlize Theron’s fan-favorite character in the 2015 movie, Taylor-Joy originally planned to shave her head. However, Miller decided to stop the Queen’s Gambit star from doing it. “I felt so fiercely protective over Furiosa, and fiercely protective of her interests,” Taylor-Joy said. “I was so excited to shave my head. Then George saw me in real life, and went, ‘No, we can’t!'”
The official synopsis for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga reads, “as the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga debuts on May 24, 2024.
