On Thursday morning, a shooting occurred on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, leaving the gunman dead and at least two others injured. The gunman has been identified as Mohamed Jalloh, who was convicted in 2016 for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS). Jalloh, a former Army National Guard member, was arrested for attempting to assist in procuring weapons for what he believed to be an ISIS attack on U.S. soil. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

In response to the attack, Old Dominion University President Brian Hemphill issued a statement expressing gratitude for the swift response of police and emergency personnel. “Earlier today, March 12, 2026, Old Dominion University faced a tragedy on our main campus,” Hemphill stated. “I am grateful for the swift response of our police officers, emergency management personnel, and our partners at the City of Norfolk who promptly assisted the injured,” he added.

Following the shooting, the university announced the cancellation of classes and suspension of operations on the main campus for the remainder of the day. Hemphill urged individuals to avoid the area and follow instructions from ODU Alerts, with counseling support offered to those affected.

There has also been an attack on a synagogue in Michigan, which was preceded by a car ramming. The attacker, unidentified as of the time of publication, is reported dead.
