Populist Right Wing Leaders Across the Pond Defend Donald Trump After Guilty Verdict

On May 31, 2024, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán supported former President Donald Trump after he was found guilty on 34 counts in a criminal trial that took place in New York City.

Trump became the first American ex-president to be convicted of a crime after a jury found him guilty of falsifying documents to  keep a hush money payment made to  porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election under wraps.

Orbán described Trump as a “man of honor.”

“As President, he always put America first, he commanded respect around the world and used this respect to build peace,” Orbán declared on X, adding that the American people will “make their verdict this November.”

Orbán has been the most vocal supporter of Trump as far as European heads of state are concerned. In March, he endorsed Trump’s re-election bid for the presidency. Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini also expressed “solidarity and full support” for Trump.

Salvini asserted that Trump was a “victim of judicial harassment” caused by the “the weaponization of the justice system by the left.”

America First nationalists will need to forge alliances with nationalists

In Europe so that they can discuss best practices and build transnational networks to defeat the globalist elites.

This is one fight that we can’t afford to be atomized in.
