The Power Rangers are some of the most iconic superheroes out there. They are famous for their brightly colored, spandex costumes. What casual viewers might not realize is that a Rangers’ color is integral to their powerset. Each Rangers’ power is tied to a specific part of the extradimensional energy field known as the Morphin Grid, and each Ranger has a unique connection with it. Only one version of each specific power can exist at a time. This is why two Ranger teams can work together, but why there cannot be two Pink Mighty Morphin Rangers active at the same time.
While most Rangers only use one set of powers, there are a few that have used multiple powers. more interestingly, some Rangers have actually changed colors. These Rangers especially stand out because they are so uncommon. Most Rangers have a pretty strong tie with their respective color. Swapping colors means changing a huge part of the Rangers’ identity. Not only are their powers tied to their color, but so is their position on the team. For example, becoming the Red Ranger usually means they’re the group’s leader.

10 Best Power Rangers Series, Ranked by Ranger Team Designs
Each Power Ranger team has a unique and interesting suit, but some of them, like Ninja Storm or Zeo, stood out more than the others.
Power Rangers Megaforce and Power Rangers Super Megaforce feature a team of Rangers with an unusual powerset. These Rangers are capable of copying and using the abilities of any other Ranger through the use of “Ranger Keys.” While the Rangers would usually transform into other Rangers of the same color, they sometimes transform into other colors.
One team member had a more permanent change. Jake, initially the Black Megaforce Ranger, changed to Green when using Super Mega Mode. He was primarily associated with both Black and Green when utilizing other team’s powers. The real-life reason that this happened was that Megaforce and Super Megaforce use footage from two different Sentai seasons, though the in-universe reason has never been given.

Rocky took on the Blue Zeo Ranger powers in Power Rangers Zeo. He was definitely better suited to the role of Blue Ranger and used his new powers well against the Machine Empire. Power Rangers has had a host of impressive mentors, including Tommy Oliver. But what other characters led these teams in a meaningful way?

From the beginning, Sky made it clear that he wanted to be the Red Ranger and leader of the team. However, Jack gets the position, and Sky becomes the Blue Ranger instead. He eventually learned to accept his role on the team.
At the end of the season, Sky was promoted to the Red Ranger after Jack retired. Sky matured during his time with B-Squad, and by the end of the show was ready for the responsibility. Power Rangers Operation Overdrive‘s “Once A Ranger” special later confirmed that Sky was promoted to Earth Base Commander.

When the Rangers headed into space to rescue Zordon, TJ received a new Ranger color. There was already a Red Space Ranger, so TJ became the Blue Space Ranger instead. However, he was a kind-hearted and dedicated hero. Bridge started his Ranger journey as B-Squad’s Green Ranger and used his powers well as the de-facto heart of the team.
When Jack left his powers behind and Sky was promoted to Red Ranger, Bridge was also promoted to Blue Ranger, although audiences never got to see it. In Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, the statues the Rangers draw their power from are destroyed. They decide to use ancient technology to reforge their connection with the Morphin Grid. When the Mighty Morphin powers were lost, Tommy became the Red Zeo Ranger and later the Red Turbo Ranger. Tommy later made his triumphant return in Power Rangers Dino Thunder. He bonded with the black dino gem to become the Black Dino Thunder Ranger. That’s four Ranger colors and five powersets for one hero, so it’s no wonder he received the Master Morpher.
