While NATO’s Secretary General Mark Rutte was expressing fond sentiments about President Donald Trump at the NATO summit in The Hague, President Trump was making some remarks of his own to the assembled media. And, as we might expect, he is expressing himself in his usual inimitable style. Here are those high points.
First, the president announces a new NATO defense spending commitment:

Now, as someone once said, this is a big freaking deal. If the nations of NATO sign on to this and follow through, it will result in a pretty dramatic restructuring of the NATO nations’ defense postures. It won’t save them from their self-inflicted demographic crisis or their losing their cultures and homelands to waves of “refugees,” but it may at least give Tsar Vladimir I some pause, and buying time isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Next, the president observed that Iran’s Fordow nuclear site, hit by American bunker-busters, was “totally inoperable,” then went on to torch CNN, which, among all the legacy media, is mostly remarkable for its institutional Trump Derangement Syndrome:

The President said in part:
The devastating U.S. strike on Fordow destroyed the site’s critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility totally inoperable. It was devastated.
We can hope this is correct, although it’s still a bit early to be counting coup. The centrifuges used to enrich uranium are fragile, and if they were running at the time of the strike, the high-speed devices could very well have self-destructed.
The president went on:
Our (B-2 bomber) pilots were demeaned, they were maligned and treated very bad, demeaned by fake news CNN, which is back there, believe it or not. Wasting time! Nobody’s watching them. They’re just wasting a lot of time. Wasting my time!
But here’s the tidbit that will no doubt raise a few eyebrows, at The Hague and in Washington:

“Because we feel like WARRIORS!”
“It used to be Secretary of War, then we became politically correct.”

The president introduced Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and went on to propose a change of title for the latter; he said:
You know, it used to be called Secretary of War. Maybe for a few weeks we’ll call it that. Because we feel like warriors. Used to be called Secretary of War. In fact if you look at the old building next to the White House, you can see where it used to be Secretary of War. Then we became politically correct, and they called it Secretary of Defense. Maybe we’ll have to start thinking about changing it.
This is an idea that I’ve been speaking and writing in favor of for years. There’s nothing to be gained by mincing words here. War is the business of our armed services, war is their profession, and it is only their preparedness for and proficiency in war that preserves the peace. They train for war, they are equipped for war, and no war was ever won solely by standing on the defensive. It should be the Secretary of War and the War Department once more, encompassing all the armed services (I see no need to split the Navy Department off as once was), and the name and title should acknowledge that.
President Trump also hinted at a meeting with Iran, now that there is a cease-fire in place.

The president expressed some indifference about a signed agreement, perhaps knowing that any such agreement with Iran would be broken by the Islamic state at the first opportunity. He did repeat the insistence that Iran should never have a nuclear capability:
The only thing we’ll be asking for is what we were asking for before, we want no nuclear. But we destroyed the nuclear.
Even CNN is having to face the facts: The Trump administration has, for the moment, brought Iran to heel, and NATO seems to have absorbed that fact, even if the legacy media has not.
