A drunk former doctor and knife enthusiast was arrested for carving a six-inch laceration into his girlfriend’s neck and driving away from the scene of the crime, according to police.
James Michael Doyle, a retired physician with roughly 40 years of experience, was intoxicated around midnight on September 23 when he ‘filleted open’ his girlfriend’s neck with a knife.
The unidentified woman suffered a slash of six inches from the area towards the back of her ear down the trapezius muscles at their home in Taylor, Michigan.
Authorities said she was watching TV on the couch when Doyle attacked her, and she managed to call 911 soon after she was cut, according to Fox 2.
The woman reportedly told dispatchers that her boyfriend ‘fileted’ her with the knife.
The woman was delirious from blood loss when police arrived and Doyle was missing.
The cops reportedly found the 65-year-old in a car miles away from the house. Police officers confirmed that they believe Doyle is a former doctor.
He was charged with domestic violence, felonious assault, assault to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .17 or more.

Police said the girlfriend: ‘Didn’t have much of a recollection since she didn’t see any of it happen,’ according to the outlet.
Officials found that the couple had been together for four years and had previous domestic violence issues but never reported them.
Lieutenant John Regan of the Taylor Police Department said to the outlet: ‘Minimizing any sort of crime, especially domestic, once weapons become involved in just changes the whole circumstances around it.’
The lieutenant elaborated on the woman’s condition: ‘She pulled through – the doctors did a great job working on her.’
‘I believe she went through and is just recovering at a local hospital right now.’
Authorities reported that the drunk doctor was also a knife collector.
At this time there is no reported motive behind Doyle’s actions. Police reportedly speculated that there may have been an argument beforehand.
The Daily Mail contacted Doyle’s former office, ProMedica, who said Doyle had retired from the practice. The office added they had no further comment.
