Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano in The Madalorian

Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson is hoping for a second season of her upcoming Star Wars spinoff series.

Speaking at Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London, Dawson said that if the first season of Ahsoka performs well, then maybe a second season will be in order. Disney’s Q1 earnings report that was released earlier this year, hinted at a possible second season of Ahsoka already being in development. The first trailer for the series premiered at Star Wars Celebration, featuring Ahsoka on a quest to hunt down Grand Admiral Thrawn. First introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka emerged as a fan-favorite character within the greater canon and became a major presence in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. The character made her live-action debut in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, with Dawson stepping in to fill the role. She was last seen alongside Luke Skywalker in an episode of The Book of Boba Fett.

The Ahsoka trailer also features the live-action debuts of Rebels characters Hera Syndulla and Sabine Wren, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Natasha Liu Bordizzo, respectively. Eman Esfandi will appear as young Jedi Ezra Bridger in the show. Another member of the Ghost crew, Zeb Orrelios, made his live-action debut in a recent episode of The Mandalorian. Ahsoka will act as a spiritual successor to Rebels, although it will also tell a “standalone” story, according to Bordizzo. Another character confirmed to return is Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, with Hayden Christensen returning to the role.

What to Expect From Ahsoka

It is currently unknown who will portray Thrawn in live-action. The character was voiced by Lars Mikkelsen in Rebels, though he has shot down rumors that he will return to portray the character in Ahsoka. The trailer hints at a possible retelling of the Legends storyline Heir to the Empire, a trilogy of books which debuted in the 1990s that explored what happened after the events of Return of the Jedi. In the books, Thrawn looks to form a new Empire to fight against Luke, Han Solo, Leia and the New Republic.

Rounding out the cast of Ahsoka are Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno, who are allegedly portraying antagonists Baylon and Shin, respectively, according to a previous report from Making Star Wars. Both characters are seen wielding a new type of lightsaber. The series will also reportedly introduce new Force abilities and combat moves preformed by Ezra, including telekinetic Force blasts.

Ahsoka is set to premiere on Disney+ in August.
