Byrne’s lead performance in the movie has garnered critical praise and last month in Janaury, she notably won her first ever Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
She added a bit of humor to her acceptance speech and shared the reason why her partner Bobby Cannavale did not accompany her to the event at the time.
‘Thanks to my husband Bobby. He isn’t here because we’re getting a bearded dragon, and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey,’ she revealed to the audience.
The actress went on to add, ‘I didn’t prepare anything, but – I didn’t sing in this movie, guys. Thank you so much my fellow nominees, I just can’t believe I’m here.’

‘Thank you so much. This is like a tiny film, so this is a huge thing to be up here. And my brother’s my date! Thanks, George. Thanks to, you know, my mum and dad who bought Paramount Plus so they could watch the Golden Globes from Sydney.’
Byrne has reflected in the film’s recent success and critical praise during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
‘I knew, reading the script, that it was singular and unique and unbelievable. But the rest, I could never anticipate.’

‘I was like, “Oh my gosh, I cannot mess this up.” It’s a gift for an actress. And I got to try everything: I was stretched. I was challenged – and in a feature film, too, which is so rare to get this opportunity.’
Byrne added, ‘I was so hyper aware of that when I signed on and Mary approached me.’
