An extraordinary treasure trove of royal artefacts – including a pair of Queen Victoria’s bloomers – are set to be auctioned later this month.  

The collection of one-off items includes cake from the weddings of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Charles and Camilla, autographed letters by a number of monarchs and Princess Margaret’s pill boxes. 

The most expensive item up for sale is a portrait of Prince Philip created by expressionist painter Feliks Topolski in 1965, which is expected to fetch up to £12,000.

Victoria’s knickers, thought to be from an early period of her reign, are the second most expensive item, with auctioneers hoping the 19th century clothing will sell for between £5,000 and £7,000.

Made from French lawn linen, the knickers reach almost to the knee, and feature a small embroidered monogram, a crowned ‘VR’, on the 30-inch waistband. 

An 11-year-old piece of cake from William and Kate’s 2011 wedding, which has been wrapped in paper and placed in a cream and gilt pictorial tin is hoped to fetch £600.

Meanwhile, a piece of fruit sponge from Charles and Camilla’s 2005 wedding, accompanied by an enclosure card with a message from the couple, is hoped to fetch £350.

The lot includes cute family snaps of Her Majesty from baby Elizabeth to her Coronation day, plus photos of her father George VI before his death.

Images depicting the current monarch from when she was a toddler to her various engagements during and after the war are expected to fetch as much as £300 at the auction later this month

Princess Margaret’s enamel patch boxes and pill boxes are up for grabs and should fetch around £1,500. 

A signed photograph taken by Margaret’s photographer husband David-Armstrong Jones of the Princess holding their young baby daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto, in her arms is expected to earn up to £400. 

There are also a number of letters signed by royals like Prince George the Duke of Kent, King William IV and King George V.

Furthermore, a red wax seal of the Duchy of Lancaster from the reign of Queen Victoria will also be up for sale. 

The ultra rare pieces will be auctioned off on May 31, with a number of viewing days beforehand for hopefuls to see the goods before putting a bid in.

The auction is titled ‘Happy and Glorious: A Royal Sale’ and is hosted by Chiswick Auctions.

The auctioneer said: ‘In this special sale, Chiswick Auctions will be showcasing a wide array of royal memorabilia from across the past century.’
