Rustin starring Colman Domingo will be coming to Netflix soon, and we’ve created a guide of everything we know so far about the upcoming drama film!
Rustin was helmed by Tony award-winning director George C. Wolfe from a screenplay co-written by Milk‘s Dustin Lance Black and Wolfe. You might know Wolfe from his work on Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Black has worked on shows like MTV’s Faking It and Big Love.
The drama movie was produced by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground Productions. It’s a part of the Obama’s multi-year deal with Netflix to produce scripted and unscripted film and television series.

Rustin release updates
We do not have an official release date yet. However, the film is expected to land on Netflix sometime this year. The good news is that filming wrapped back in December 2021, so it’s been in post-production for about four months as of April 22. We think there’s a good chance the film is already done being edited and is just waiting on a release date from Netflix. A movie like Rustin would typically take about three to five months in post-production.
Our best release date prediction would be sometime this summer. There’s a possibility the streamer could hold it until the fall, but that would be unnecessary. For now, expect the film to make its way to the streamer in the summer. We’ll share the official release date when Netflix announces it.

The George C. Wolfe-directed pic tells the story of how Rustin overcame an onslaught of obstacles and altered the course of American history by organizing the 1963 March on Washington.
