San Antonio cops investigate 'high profile murder' after man was stabbed to death by family member

A 78-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death inside his San Antonio home on Tuesday morning, and a family member has been taken into custody after fleeing the scene.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus described the killing as a ‘high-profile murder’ during an afternoon press briefing.

Officers were called shortly before 11am to the home that lies within a gated community in the North Side area of the city.

A housekeeper inside the residence called 911 after discovering the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, telling dispatchers there was ‘blood all around’ and that she could not stop the bleeding.

Chief McManus said the suspect, believed to be in his 40s, attacked the victim following an apparent argument or family dispute.

‘There was an altercation or argument of some sort. The suspect attacked the victim, and he is now deceased,’ McManus explained.

After stabbing the man several times, the suspect fled the house, leaving the victim to ‘bleed out while lying in the garage,’ McManus said.

When officers arrived on the scene they found the victim lying the garage complete with multiple stab wounds.

He was treated by EMS and placed into an ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

San Antonio’s North Side is generally considered one of the more affluent and desirable areas of the city making the murder all the more shocking.

Law enforcement tracked down and detained the suspect late on Tuesday morning in Kimble County, roughly 120 miles northwest of San Antonio having travelled west on Interstate 10.

Authorities did not immediately clarify why the suspect, who is not from Texas, was in the city or what motivated the deadly assault.

‘The victim lived here by himself,’ McManus said. ‘There is no ongoing threat to the public,’ he assured the public.

The victim’s name will be released pending formal identification by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.
