Back in May, San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced her five-year plan to end transgender homelessness. Breed had budgeted $6.5 million to end trans homelessness by 2027. We thought that must have been a mistake; surely she had budgeted $6.5 million to end all homelessness, right? Wrong. The piece she linked to in her tweet announcing the five-year plan confirmed that it was targeted toward trans homelessness.
We’d forgotten about that until today when we read that San Francisco has launched a guaranteed income program for low-income transgender people. KRON reports:
Mayor London Breed announced the launch of a new guaranteed income program for San Francisco’s trans community. The Guaranteed Income for Trans People program will provide low-income transgender San Franciscans with $1,200 each month, for up to 18 months, to help address financial insecurity within trans communities, Breed revealed Wednesday.
The pilot program is the first guaranteed income initiative to focus solely on trans people, and will provide regular, unconditional cash transfers to individuals or households who qualify, according to the Mayor’s Office. This differs from other social safety net practices by providing a steady, predictable stream of cash to recipients to spend as they see fit without limitations.
The city started accepting applications Tuesday.

Don’t they have the biggest homeless rate in the country?
— Rändi (@rebb72) November 16, 2022
How is this not meant to encourage people to transition?

Good luck with dealing with even more of that group as they gather together.

I would sign up for that even though I’m not

I am now identifying as living in San Francisco as a trans woman.

They get free money and I don’t ?

I identify as a low income transgender in San Francisco, but that’s only because I’m still waiting for my money from being an immigrant separated from my family at the border in 2018.

Fine, I’m transgender… Where’s my $1,200?
— Half-Ass Troll (@halfasstroll) November 16, 2022
The rush is on to SF. Maybe they’ll collect all of these folks.

Lots of “transitions” on deck.

This better be a lie. I can’t imagine that veterans are living on the streets and something like this gets approval.

I think Palm Springs, CA wants to do this also. https://t.co/IltPSPeIo2

Plus the $900 they are allowed to directly steel from stores.

At first I thought this would be for everyone and someone just made the title as for trans, but no, it is only for trans people

Californian: why are my taxes so high?
Smart Californians: I never really gave this transgender thing a chance. Time to see what it feels like

KRON reminds us that Breed also launched the “Abundant Birth Project” a couple of years ago, but only for black and Pacific Islander pregnant people: “In 2020, the City launched the Abundant Birth Project, which offers basic income for Black and Pacific Islander mothers and pregnant people during and after pregnancy” — to address structural racism, of course. Oh yeah, and then there was the guaranteed income project for artists, like Hunter Biden.
